Peperoni Pizzeria @ Greenwood Avenue - For Hearty Wood-fired Pizzas, Pastas, Diverse Mains and Desserts

IMG_6301

Peperoni Pizzeria has long been a well-known brand for its wood-fired pizzas, most notably the XXL 21” versions that let diners mix and match flavours with a half-and-half option.

IMG_6276

IMG_6352

Since opening in 2004, it has grown to six outlets across Singapore, including its original location at Greenwood and branches in Suntec, United Square, Biopolis, Upper Thomson, and Frankel. The brand has also recently refreshed its dessert and drink offerings to complement its core menu.

Blistered Cherry Tomatoes 3.8/5

We stopped by the cosy Greenwood outlet to sample several items, starting with the Blistered Cherry Tomatoes ($16). The appetiser brought together sweet roasted tomatoes, creamy stracciatella, and crusty bread, lifted by a fragrant basil dressing that added both savoury and sweet notes.

IMG_6315
Pumpkin Gnocchi with Bacon & Sage Oil 4.2/5

For pasta, the Pumpkin Gnocchi with Bacon & Sage Oil ($26) stood out with its balance of creamy pumpkin sweetness, savoury sautéed bacon, and crunchy asparagus. It was rich but not cloying, making it easy to enjoy the whole plate.

IMG_6304
Large 12” Pizza - Half & Half 4/5

Naturally, we couldn't skip their signature pizza. We opted for the Large 12" Pizza ($27) in a half-and-half style. One side featured the Brown Butter Pulled Chicken with scamorza, kale, balsamic onions, and parmesan. The other was the Salmon & Asparagus, topped with salmon chunks, furikake, grated egg, and sweet mayo. Both were served on a tomato base with mozzarella. The pizza base and crust were thin, perhaps even thinner than I recall from my last experience. They also leaned more crunchy than chewy.

IMG_6330
Roasted Beetroot Caprese 3.8/5

For something meatless, we tried the Roasted Beetroot Caprese ($24), a vegetarian main with roasted beets, pesto, polenghi, and baked vegetables like baby corn and brussels sprouts. The nutty pesto tied the elements together well, though the tang of the baby corn didn’t quite win us over.

IMG_6317

IMG_6324
Baby Back Ribs 3.5/5

We also sampled the Baby Back Ribs ($37), served with a side of mesclun and fries. While we appreciated that the sauce wasn’t overly sweet, the ribs themselves were too tough for our liking.

IMG_6341

IMG_6348
Apple Brick 3.8/5

For dessert, we had the Apple Brick ($12), one of the new additions to the menu. It featured caramelised apple slices tucked into a crisp fried pastry, served with vanilla gelato. The contrast between warm and cold was delightful, though we hoped for a more pronounced apple flavour.

IMG_6335
Affogato 4/5

To finish, we enjoyed the Affogato ($10), a simple yet comforting treat of vanilla gelato, espresso, and chocolate chips.

IMG_6278
Beverages

Their revamped drinks list includes refreshing options like the Citrus Thyme Soda ($8) made with housemade lime syrup and herbs, and the Peperoni Sunset ($8), a citrusy blend of lime, orange, and mint. These are more for diners with a sweet tooth.

Cygnet by Sean Connolly @ QT Singapore - $1 Oyster Promotion with The Purchase of Any Main Course

Oysters 1

Restaurant 1

Tucked away in the heart of QT Singapore, Cygnet by Sean Connolly is a stylish and sophisticated dining spot that brings modern brasserie fare to the table with finesse. With its elegant yet welcoming space, Cygnet makes for a fantastic dinner destination - made even more enticing by its $1 oyster promotion, available from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, Monday to Saturday, with the purchase of any main course. There's no cap on how many you can order, so oyster lovers, rejoice.

Bread 1
Homemade Milk Loaf 4.5/5

We began our meal with the Homemade Milk Loaf ($6 for an extra portion), and it was hands down one of the best we've tried. Served warm and soft, with a delightfully fluffy interior, the bread was accompanied by butter and vegemite. While they usually serve it as a vegemite-butter blend, we were informed that an electrical issue during our visit meant they had to serve it separately. Nonetheless, it was a comforting and satisfying start to our meal.

Sparkling Tea
Copenhagen Bla Sparkling Tea 3.8/5

For a non-alcoholic option, we were recommended the Copenhagen Blå Sparkling Tea ($18), which offers a refreshing, lightly floral profile. Reminiscent of champagne, it's a great alternative if you're avoiding alcohol but still want something elegant and complex.

Watermelon Salad 1
Watermelon Salad 4/5

Raw Tuna 1
Raw Tuna Crudo 2.8/5

We sampled two cold starters: the Watermelon Salad ($24) and the Raw Tuna Crudo ($26). The former was bright and vibrant, featuring juicy watermelon chunks, feta, tomato, and a splash of Chardonnay vinegar. It was a refreshing and well-balanced starter.

Raw Tuna 2

Unfortunately, the Tuna Crudo didn't quite hit the mark. Despite being beautifully plated with thinly sliced tuna, pink pomelo, fennel pollen, and capers, the dish lacked seasoning and depth. The flavours felt muted and didn't quite come together.

Oysters 2
Oysters 4/5

The Japanese Oysters were undeniably fresh and plump, served simply with lemon and a mignonette dressing. At just $1 each with any main order, this is one of the best oyster deals in town. And with no limit on the number you can order, it's a true treat for seafood lovers.

Rump Cap 1
Rump Cap 4/5

Rump Cap 2

Our main highlight was the Rump Cap ($48), featuring a 200g cut of F1 Picanha Wagyu from Australia. It was grilled to a beautiful medium doneness and paired with a rich red wine jus. It was flavourful, tender and satisfying.

Roasted Seabass Gnocchi 1
Roasted Seabass Gnocchi 2.5/5

In contrast, the Roasted Seabass Gnocchi ($32) fell short of expectations. While the crispy skin on the seabass was well-executed, the overall dish was underwhelming. The ricotta gnocchi and fish lacked texture and seasoning, and the salsa verde topping didn't lift the flavours as hoped. It was the weakest dish of the night, though we've shared our feedback with the team and hope to see an improved version in the future.

Creme Caramel 1

Creme Caramel 2
Crème Caramel 4/5

We ended the meal on a sweet note with the Crème Caramel ($18). Silky and slightly dense, the pudding had a creamy richness with a subtle burnt caramel flavour. It wasn't overly sweet, and the Chantilly cream added a lovely lightness to the dish.

Chocolate Fondant 1

Chocolate Fondant 2
Chocolate Fondant 4/5

The Chocolate Fondant ($18) is a must for those who prefer bolder flavours. It features a gooey chocolate lava centre topped with Maraschino cherries and served with vanilla bean gelato. It is rich, indulgent, and not cloyingly sweet, just the way a good fondant should be.

Restaurant 2

Restaurant 3

Cygnet by Sean Connolly offers a promising dining experience with a few standout dishes and a stunning space that's perfect for a casual dinner or special night out. The $1 oyster deal is a major draw, and there's precise attention to quality ingredients throughout the menu. While not every dish wowed us, the highlights certainly warrant a revisit, and we look forward to seeing how the menu continues to evolve.

Duomo Ristorante @ CHIJMES - Italian Classics, Hearty Italian Flavours, Charming Ambience

Photo 29-6-24, 8 26 57 PM

Photo 15-7-24, 11 31 42 PM

Recently opened in January 2024, Duomo Ristorante is an aptly named culinary gem nestled within the beautiful grounds of CHIJMES. The menu offers Italian classics made with fresh ingredients from both the Northern and Southern regions, showcasing the hearty flavours of Italian cuisine.

Photo 29-6-24, 7 06 29 PM

There is a cosy indoor dining area, but the outdoor terrace is particularly delightful, especially on cool evenings. Here, guests can fully immerse themselves in the vibrant atmosphere while enjoying views of the picturesque CHIJMES hall. The outdoor terrace is thoughtfully accented with Italian decorative touches, creating a charming and inviting ambience that sets the backdrop for a relaxing dining experience.

Photo 29-6-24, 7 42 17 PM
Bruschetta 4.2/5

We started with a variety of antipasti, the first being a delightful Bruschetta ($21). This classic Italian starter showcased simplicity at its finest. Each slice of rustic bread was perfectly toasted and topped with heirloom Sicilian pizzutello tomatoes and Pecorino cheese shavings. The juicy sweetness of the tomatoes made each bite very enjoyable!

Photo 29-6-24, 7 46 35 PM
Wagy Carpaccio 4.2/5

The Wagyu Carpaccio ($28) is also delicious. Delicate slivers of wagyu are elevated with a house-made sauce of truffle cream, butter, and parmesan. To add a refreshing contrast, the dish is generously garnished with rocket leaves, which provide a crisp freshness to balance the richness of the wagyu and the creamy sauce.

Photo 29-6-24, 7 49 00 PM
Seafood Cioppino 4.5/5

For something hearty, opt for their Seafood Cioppino ($28). The base of the Seafood Cioppino is a rich tomato broth infused with aromatic herbs and spices and simmered to perfection. The broth provides a comforting warmth that sets the stage for the seafood medley of calamari, clams, and prawns — a harmonious ensemble that reflects the essence of coastal Italian cuisine.

Photo 29-6-24, 8 30 47 PM
Bella Duomo 4.2/5

Whilst they are not particularly a pizza speciality restaurant, the pizza we tried here was pretty good! We had the Bella Duomo ($36), where the star of the show is the rich and savoury mortadella cold cut, which comes straight from Bologna. Accompanying it are crunchy pistachios, adding a delightful texture and nutty flavour, as well as creamy stracciatella cheese generously spread across the pizza.

Photo 29-6-24, 8 25 17 PM
Tagliolini Gamberi & Lemon 4.5/5

Next up were two plates of pasta, both of which I thoroughly relished and savoured. The Tagliolini Gamberi & Lemon ($38) is a dish inspired by the chef's childhood and beautifully captures the essence of an Italian summer with its bright and zesty flavours. Some of my dining companions found it slightly too tangy, but I enjoyed the refreshing acidity imparted by the lemons and capers. Regarding flavour profile, this dish stands out as one of the more distinctive pastas I've had in Singapore. If you opt for this pasta, I recommend mixing it thoroughly with the sauce right away to prevent clumping and to ensure every bite is as delightful as the last.

Photo 29-6-24, 8 23 28 PM
Gnocchi Funghi & Salsiccia 4.5/5

The Gnocchi Funghi & Salsiccia ($28) is another comforting dish that satisfies my palate. The gnocchi, mushrooms, and Italian sausage are enveloped in a luxurious, savoury sauce. The sausage is slow-cooked with a medley of onions, celery, and white wine, infusing the dish with hearty flavours that linger on the taste buds.

Photo 29-6-24, 9 05 42 PM
Polipo Arrosto 3.8/5

Polipo Arrosto ($38) celebrates the ocean's bounty with grilled octopus, which offers a slightly crispy exterior with a smoky char while maintaining a firm but not rubbery texture. Accompanying the octopus is a citrusy sauce infused with diced tomatoes and olives, adding a vibrant and tangy contrast to the seafood. Silky smooth potato and rocket salad accompany the dish.

Photo 29-6-24, 9 08 02 PM
Nodino di Maiale 3.8/5

The Nodino di Maiale ($38) features a pork chop marinated for 24 hours in a fragrant blend of rosemary and thyme and grilled to perfection. It is complemented by a smooth house-made apple mustard that adds a hint of sweetness. The flavours are good, but our pork cut was pretty lean, and I would have preferred the meat to be juicier.

Photo 29-6-24, 9 39 19 PM
Duomo Tiramisu 4/5

For dessert, the Duomo Tiramisu ($16) is a crowd pleaser. Layers of delicate ladyfinger biscuits soaked in espresso impart a robust coffee flavour. Sandwiched between these espresso-soaked layers is a velvety mascarpone cream. The dessert is elegantly finished with a dusting of cocoa powder, balancing the sweetness with a hint of bittersweet cocoa notes. For inclusivity, the Tiramisu is served alcohol-free.

Photo 29-6-24, 9 42 26 PM
Panna Cotta Alla Vaniglia 3.5/5

Another option is the Panna Cotta Alla Vaniglia, a creamy and light dessert made from a traditional recipe without gelatin. It's infused with vanilla bean specks and served with some fruits and nuts.

Photo 29-6-24, 7 03 09 PM

Duomo Ristorante presents a delightful array of dishes to satisfy diverse tastes, complemented by refreshing drinks and a great ambience perfect for enjoying time with loved ones and friends. Immerse yourself in the essence of la dolce vita whilst savouring a slice of Italy in this cheerful communal dining setting!
