Wild Blaze @ Tras Street - Newly Launched $38++ Lunch Set At a Premium Dining Experience

Vintage Ribeye 2

Located along the bustling street of Tras Street, Wild Blaze is a premium steakhouse that has been quietly making waves since its opening nine months ago. This elegant establishment is helmed by Chef Nic Wong, who spent 12 years as the executive chef at Brasserie Gavroche before taking over the space. At Wild Blaze, the dining experience extends beyond perfectly cooked steaks – it's about craftsmanship, attention to detail, and an all-around elevated experience.

Restaurant 1

The restaurant exudes sophistication, with plush interiors, warm lighting and exceptional service. Their newly launched $38++ lunch set offers incredible value despite the fine-dining ambience. With quality ingredients, hearty portions, and thoughtful presentation, it's a steal!

Foccacia

Foccacia Bread with Sundried Tomato Butter
Focaccia with Sundried Tomato Butter 4/5

Each set begins with a serving of their homemade Focaccia paired with Sun-Dried Tomato Butter — a combination so delicious that it's hard to stop at just one slice. The butter is rich, tangy, and aromatic, elevating the freshly baked bread effortlessly.

Group

Chef Nic presented us with four out of the five appetiser choices (the fifth being a Beetroot Salad with Goat Cheese). Here's what we tasted:

Clam Chowder 1
Clam Chowder 4.2/5

This comforting bowl of Clam Chowder was rich without being overly heavy. Brimming with ingredients, the soup was creamy, flavourful and satisfying.

Salmon Tartare 1
Salmon Tartare 4/5

A visual delight, the Salmon Tartare (+$4) was fresh and well-balanced, with crème fraîche, chives and cucumber pickles adding a nice zing. It paired beautifully with their house focaccia – we recommend saving a piece (or asking for more) to mop up the goodness.

Fried Calamari 1
Fried Calamari 3/5

While we appreciated the use of fresh squid, the Fried Calamari was slightly over-fried, resulting in a tougher texture. The seasoning was spot on, and the chorizo aioli added a nice kick, but the chewiness slightly overshadowed the dish.

Melon Ham 1
Melon Ham 3.8/5

A classic combination of sweet Melon and savoury Ham. While the flavours worked, the portion felt a bit lean – just three slices of ham to a generous heap of melon. Still, it was a refreshing start to the meal.

Melon Ham 3

We sampled three of the five main options. Grilled Miso Salmon and Beef Bourguignon Bone Marrow Pie were not featured.

Fettuccine Crab Pasta 1

Fettuccine Crab Pasta 4
Fettuccine Crab Pasta 4.2/5

The Fettuccine Crab Pasta was a delightful surprise. The tomato-based sauce, subtly spiced, reminded us of our local dish - chilli crab. Generous shreds of crab clung to every al dente strand of pasta, delivering a flavourful, comforting bite. It grew on us quickly – not a strand was left behind!

Vintage Ribeye 1
Vintage Ribeye 4.2/5

Another thing Chef Nic takes pride in, other than great cooking, is ageing meats. Their ageing room is visible to all guests, where premium cuts of meat undergo a meticulous transformation, enhancing their natural flavours and creating unparalleled depth. This process is overseen by Chef Nic Wong, who travelled to Italy to earn his certification from the prestigious Stagionello Academy. His mastery of ageing techniques elevates every steak to a true work of art.

For just $10 more, you can upgrade to their Vintage Ribeye – a must-try. The steak was beautifully seared, well-seasoned and cooked to our preferred medium doneness. It had a familiar depth of flavour reminiscent of Cantonese roast pork on our first bite, which was both surprising and enjoyable. Served with bearnaise sauce and the in-house fries, which were crisp and addictive – no frozen alternatives here! Tip: Request for the mini chopper instead of the regular steak knife for cute photos.

Duck Parmentier 1
Duck Parmentier 3.8/5

The Duck Parmentier felt like a French twist on shepherd's pie, featuring shredded duck beneath a layer of mashed potatoes. While flavourful and comforting, it leaned a bit heavy and dry after several bites. It works better as a sharing dish than being a main dish.

Apple Pie 1
Apple Pie 3.8/5

To end the meal, we tried both dessert options. Served with Madagascar vanilla ice cream, the Apple Pie featured apple slices that retained their crunch. Not too sweet and fragrant from real vanilla beans, it's a lovely ending for those who enjoy a fruity dessert.

Creme Brulee 1
Crème Brûlée 4.5/5

This is a clear winner in our books. Creamy, silky, and with just the right level of sweetness, the Crème Brûlée was rich and satisfying, with a perfectly torched caramel top. It was a standout finish to the meal.

Restaurant 2

Wild Blaze’s $38++ set lunch offers tremendous value for a premium dining experience. With its sophisticated setting, warm hospitality and Chef Nic’s thoughtful menu, it’s a treat for both steak lovers and those seeking quality European fare. There’s also a well-curated wine selection for those who wish to pair their meal with a glass (or two).

For private occasions, the restaurant features an intimate dining room that seats up to 12 guests. The minimum spend for lunch is $2,000, and for dinner, it is $4,000 — ideal for celebrations or corporate gatherings.

Anya’s Beef & Peanut Butter Maki

One of the signature items is Anya's Beef & Peanut Butter Maki ($4.90), which reflects Anya's love for peanuts. This sushi roll features a quirky combination of short plate beef, cucumber, and a housemade peanut sauce.

IMG_0271
Ebi Mentai Maki 3/5

Another sushi roll creation is the Ebi Mentai Maki ($4.90), filled with shrimp, tamago, and cucumber, then drizzled with rich mentaiko sauce.

IMG_0266
Chicken Stew 3/5

For a comforting option, the Chicken Stew ($6.90) offers a bowl of chicken chunks, potatoes, and carrots, served with tamago and star-shaped rice. Although we found the rice too dry, the stew itself was pretty satisfying.

IMG_0273
Hiyashi Tanuki Udon 3.5/5

On the cooler side, the Hiyashi Tanuki Udon ($4.90) is served chilled with chewy udon noodles dressed in Japanese Goma sauce, complemented by crabstick, tamago, cucumber, and crispy tempura bits.

IMG_0263
Stellar Ebi Katsu 3/5

The Stellar Ebi Katsu ($2.90) was created in celebration of Anya's first ‘Stellar Star’ earned. This star-shaped shrimp cutlet is deep-fried and served with mayonnaise.

IMG_0270
Anya Croquette 3.5/5

Another fried treat is the Anya Croquette ($2.90), which comes adorned with an Anya imprint. The crispy croquette is served with Tonkatsu Mayo sauce, giving it a flavour profile reminiscent of okonomiyaki.

IMG_0272
Clam Chowder 3/5

The soup option on the menu is a creamy Clam Chowder ($3.90) with bits of clams, carrots and potatoes.

IMG_0267
Kaisen Gunkan 3/5

Lastly, the Kaisen Gunkan ($4.40) offers a mix of different sashimi cubes topped with a bit of spice.

IMG_0262
Kani Salad Edo-mae 3.5/5

In addition to the themed items, we also had a couple of dishes from the regular menu. The Kani Salad Edo-mae ($3.60) consisted of rice wrapped in sweet omelette and topped with crabstick shreds.

IMG_0264
Aburi Maguro 2.5/5

The Aburi Maguro ($3.40) was unfortunately over-torched, taking away from the fish's natural flavour.

IMG_0274
Parfait 2.5/5

To end the meal on a sweet note, two themed desserts are on offer. The Bond Mofu-Mofu Parfait ($6.40) and Spy x FamilySpecial Parfait ($6.40) both feature existing soft serve flavours - Hokkaido Milk and Matcha, decorated to fit the Spy x Family theme. Each is topped with honey stars and a chocolate piece featuring the character Bond.

First Grill @ Bukit Pasoh - Grilled Gastronomy, Where Culinary Meets The Flames Of Passion

IMG_3008

IMG_3032

First Grill, located at Bukit Pasoh is dedicated to serving delicious grilled cuisine to customers who enjoy the beauty of grilled food over charcoal and flames. Using the renowned Josper Charcoal Grill paired with a team of chefs who have mastered the wild nature of flames. First Grill serves a comprehensive menu of grilled meats, seafood and even paella that best bring out the alluring smoky flavour of grilled food.

IMG_2981
Australian Grass-Fed Ribeye 3.8/5

Australian Grass-Fed Ribeye ($29) is a simple dish that will satisfy your craving for a steak any time of the week. Ours was evenly cooked, with the right doneness to bring out the flavour of the beef. For fancier options, try those paired with sambal belacan for a touch of local flavours.

IMG_3014
Iberico Spare Ribs 4.2/5

The extravagant-looking Iberico Spare Ribs ($29) were pretty spot on. The exterior was slightly charred and caramelised with an alluring smoky flavour, with the meat juicy and tender. It can be grilled even slightly longer to render more fats to get more out of the meat.

IMG_3007
Seafood Paella 4.5/5

I love the Seafood Paella ($25) here! Perhaps due to the amount of socarrat present in the dish. Some parts of the rice at the bottom of the pan had caramelised and turned crispy due to the direct heat from the flame, adding more texture and flavour to the dish. It came brimming with many ingredients, such as shrimp, squid, salmon, bell pepper, green peas, tomato and onion.

IMG_2993
Grilled Octopus Leg 4.8/5

The Grilled Octopus Leg ($35) is a must-try here. It is very popular and gets sold out in the afternoon. The portion was quite sizeable and evenly grilled to perfection with a delightful texture.

IMG_2987
English Clam Chowder 3/5

The menu offers Starters as well, such as soups and salads. Unfortunately, they were rather average, with the English Clam Chowder ($9) being the best out of the lot.

Luke's Lobster @ Isetan Scotts - Marks The Brand's First Foray Into Southeast Asia

LukesLobster2

The long wait for New York-based restaurant - Luke's Lobster, famed worldwide for its Maine-style lobster rolls is finally over with it anticipated opening in Isetan Scotts Singapore on 23 September 2020, 1pm. It will be the brand's first foray into Southeast Asia.

LukesLobster5
Lobster Roll 4/5

For a start, Luke's Lobster is offering 3 different rolls on the menu - Lobster Roll ($25.50), Crab Roll ($23.50) and Shrimp Roll ($21.50). I have not tried their rolls before; hence I could not compare whether it tastes the same as the other overseas outlets. Checking with my friends that had tried their rolls before, the feedback is it tastes the same.

LukesLobster11
Crab Roll 4.2/5

The rolls come with seafood served chilled atop a buttered, griddled split-top bun with a swipe of mayo, a dash of lemon butter and a sprinkle of the brand's secret seasoning. If I compare it to Burger & Lobster, I find the bun is less buttery and oily. The texture is crispier, more like a toasty. I am not saying it is not good. I enjoyed it. It is up to the individual, just like how different people like their burger.

LukesLobster8
Shrimp Roll 3/5

Among the 3 rolls, surprisingly my favourite goes to the Crab Roll. I enjoyed how the sweetness of the crab meat coming through the buttery bun. Followed by the Lobster Roll. As for the shrimp, I didn't quite enjoy it there is still saltiness to it like it has been soaked in saltwater.

LukesLobster3

For those that can't decide what to get, you can go for Luke's Trio ($33.50) which consists of half portion each of the three rolls. A sample platter for you to decide which you really like and you can get the full portion in your next visit. To complete the meal, you can add either the Clam Chowder Soup ($11.50) or Lobster Bisque ($12.90).

LukesLobster19

To be launch at a later date is the Grilled Cheese Toast with either Lobster or Crab meat. It has a crispier bite compare to the roll. Some of us felt that the strongly flavoured cheese used kind of covers the sweetness of the lobster meat. It fares better with crab meat toasty though as it is sweeter.

LukesLobster6

To avoid snaking queue for its opening on 23 September 2020 at 1pm, you can pre-order online for takeaway through https://www.lukeslobster.sg from 17 September 2020, 12pm. The restaurant will also be rolling out island-wide delivery and third-party food delivery aggregators in phrases.

Note: This is an invited tasting.
