MinJiangCNY22-1

Goodwood Park Hotel presents a prosperous collection of Lunar New Year goodies and festive dishes from 4 January to 5 February 2023 to leap into the Year of the Rabbit. We are treated to a spread of Lunar New Year dishes available at Min Jiang, Min Jiang Dempsey and The Deli.

MinJiangCNY22-32

MinJiangCNY22-28
Five Blessings Lo Hei

One of my favourite Yu Sheng this year has to go to Min Jiang's Five Blessing Lo Hei ($298), which comes with lobster, abalone, salmon, Hokkaido scallop, and crispy salted egg yolk fish skin. The magnificent Yu Sheng is adorned with a beautiful illustration of two rabbits in a bamboo forest, personally hand-painted by Master Chef Chan Hwan Kee of Min Jiang. The invigorating dressing of plum sauce, strawberry jam, calamansi juice, lime, ginger flower buds, chilli padi, garlic and onion bound everything today for a sweet, tangy and refreshing finish.

MinJiangCNY22-39
Five Fortune Appetiser Platter

New festive takeaways this Lunar New Year at Min Jiang include the Five Fortune Appetiser Platter ($192.25) comprising Chilled Mini Abalone, Deep-fried Prawn, Jellyfish, Barbecued Iberico Char Siew and Boxing Chicken.

MinJiangCNY22-43
Double-boiled Abalone Soup with Handmade Dace Fish Balls and Matsutake Mushrooms in Claypot

Another takeaway favourite of mine at Min Jiang is the Double-boiled Abalone Soup with Handmade Dace Fish Balls and Matsutake Mushrooms in Claypot ($321.65). A good change from the usual richly flavoured dishes, yet comforting and heart-warming with fragrant sweetness imparted from boiling chicken and dried sole fish. The treasure pot features luxurious ingredients such as whole abalones, fried eel fish maw, deep-fried handmade dace fish balls with black moss, conch meat, matsutake mushrooms and radish.

MinJiangCNY22-51
Braised Pork Belly, Minced Pork Ball with Quail Egg, Chicken Roll and Sea Treasures in Pot

Min Jiang at Dempsey did not lose out in their festive takeaway offerings either. The Braised Pork Belly, Minced Pork Ball with Quail Egg, Chicken Roll and Sea Treasures in Pot ($429.85) comes with the pot when delivered. The highlight of the robust dish is the succulent pork belly that is slow-cooked with aromatics and chicken broth for two and a half hours, followed by steaming for three hours. It is a delicious but painstakingly prepared dish.

MinJiangCNY22-57

MinJiangCNY22-61
Claypot Reunion Rice with Assorted Preserved Meat

Available at both Min Jiang and Min Jiang Dempsey is the Claypot Reunion Rice with Assorted Preserved Meat ($128). The pot of fragrant rice is crowned with a sumptuous selection of preserved Chinese pork sausages, liver, waxed duck leg and succulent pork belly.

MinJiangCNY22-21
Bountiful Bunnies 'Nian Gao' with Black Sesame Paste

The eye-catching and adorable Bountiful Bunnies 'Nian Gao' with Black Sesame Paste ($59.80 for 8pc) is a reimagined traditional classic, handmade with steamed glutinous rice flour and coconut milk filled with velvety-smooth black sesame paste. These loveable cuties are a treat to both the palate and the eyes.

CrystalJadeCNY23-6

CrystalJadeCNY23-1
Golden Harvest Sea Cucumber Yu Sheng 4.2/5

Most Yu Sheng offered at Chinese New Year dinners are of the sweet version. For a change this year, Crystal Jade has introduced the Golden Harvest Sea Cucumber Yu Sheng ($138/ $208), a savoury Shunde-style Yu Sheng comprising of crunchy frisee lettuce, cucumber, ice plant, kaffir leaves, onions, carrots, jellyfish head, pomelo, dried permission, red capsicum, giving the Lo Hei a wholesome combination of vibrant colours. The use of sea cucumber is also unique from the usual fish slice and abalone. Available at all Crystal Jade fine dining restaurants.

CrystalJadeCNY23-7

CrystalJadeCNY23-11
Poached Wild Soon Hock in Pickled Tomato Soup 4.8/5

The Poached Wild Soon Hock in Pickled Tomato Soup ($16/100g) left an impression for its sweet and tangy tomato-based soup punctuated with pickled mustard leaves. The poached live Soon Hock is further topped with black fungus, deep-fried garlic and ginger, complemented by the delicious pickled tomato soup.

CrystalJadeCNY23-14
Dang Gui Crispy Salted Chicken 4.2/5

Available at Crystal Jade Hong Kong Kitchen, La Mian Xiao Long Bao, and Jiang Nan is the cordyceps-infused Dang Gui Crispy Salted Chicken ($19.80 Half/ $36.80 Whole). Coated underneath the crispy and subtle herbal-infused chicken skin is delectable and tender chicken that both young and old will enjoy.

CrystalJadeCNY23-21
Bountiful Abalone Treasure Pot 4.8/5

A dish that I look forward to every Chinese New Year is the pen cai. Available for festive takeaway to dine in the comfort of the home is the Bountiful Abalone Treasure Pot ($393.80). The timeless classic consists of 20 premium ingredients (8-head Abalone, Australian Sea Cucumber, Fresh Prawns, Roasted Pork, Pork Knuckle, Duck Web, Shiitake Mushroom, Fish Curd, Prosperity Fish Roe Money Bag and more) braised in a full-bodied, thick sauce.

CrystalJadeCNY23-24
Peach Gum, Lotus Seed and Lily Bulb in Luo Han Guo with Wendong Ginger Sweet Soup  4.2/5

We had the Peach Gum, Lotus Seed and Lily Bulb in Luo Han Guo with Wendong Ginger Sweet Soup to wrap up the dinner on a sweet note. A light and refreshing sweet soup to wash down all the richness. It is also my first time having Nian Gao wrapped in wonton skin and deep-fried. The Crispy Ginger with Orange Peel Nian Gao is another delicious way to enjoy Nian Gao.

CrystalJadeCNY23-30

YUN NANS (云海肴) @ ION Orchard - 6 Lunar New Year Set Menus For The Year Of The Rabbit

YUN NANS_3

Whether you have a small group of 3 to 6 people or a big family of 10, YUN NANS has got you covered with their 6 new Lunar New Year set menus that will be available from 9 January to 5 February 2023. These range from $338 for 4 pax to $828 for 8 pax for dine-in, each accompanied by their Traditional Baked Rose Pastry and the new Prosperity Abalone Yu Sheng.

4 selected dishes are available for a la carte orders as well. They are the Prosperity Abalone Yu Sheng, Crispy Roast Chicken, Sautéed Tiger Prawns with Superior Soy Sauce and Yun Nans Prosperity Treasure Pot.

YunnansYuSheng
Prosperity Abalone Yu Sheng 鸿福鲍鱼捞生 4/5

We started with the Prosperity Abalone Yu Sheng ($68.80 for Regular, $88.80 for Large) featuring shredded white carrot adorably shaped as a rabbit and plump whole abalones. The plum sauce used leaned tangier, while the abalones were tender.

YUN NANS_1
Prosperity Treasure Hot Pot 火焰聚宝盆菜 4.8/5

The crowd favourite Prosperity Treasure Hot Pot ($328 for Regular - 6 pax, $468 for Large - 8 pax and any additional at $40 per pax) makes a return this year. With an eye-catching golden broth base that is stewed for 6 hours. It's further topped with 11 auspicious ingredients of roast pork belly, bamboo pith, sea cucumber, abalone, scallops, prawns, mushrooms, fish maw, cordyceps flowers, yam and Chinese cabbage. The result was a comforting and luxurious savoury broth that had us going for seconds and thirds. It’s full of depth and not overly salty.

YUN NANS_4
Crispy Roast Chicken 脆皮烤鸡 4/5

The Crispy Roast Chicken ($24.80 for Half, $39.80 for Whole) is another familiar dish from last Lunar New Year, but with an improved recipe. It is marinated with five-spice powder, air-dried and roasted. The meat was tender, but my dining companions and I agreed that we would prefer crispier skin. It's served with an in-house chilli sauce made with seven types of Yunnan's chillies and a salt and pepper dry dip.

YUN NANS_5
Steamed Jade Perch 清蒸翡翠鲈鱼 4.2/5

Opt for the Steamed Jade Perch prepared in either spicy garlic lime or Hong Kong style. We had the former, and the fish was tender and fresh, carrying an appetising tangy-spicy kick.

YUN NANS_6
Braised Spinach in Superior Stock with Dried Scallops and Bamboo Pith 瑶柱竹笙烩苋菜 4.2/5

The Braised Spinach in Superior Stock was a dish most of us enjoyed. It is paired with shredded dried scallops and bamboo pith. The flavourful stock is similar to that of the Prosperity Treasure Hot Pot.

YUN NANS_7
Sauteed Tiger Prawns with Superior Soy Sauce 豉油王老虎虾 4/5

The Sauteed Tiger Prawns with Superior Soy Sauce ($38.80) is made with a blend of premium soy and nine specially curated ingredients such as aromatics and spices. After the prawns are flash-fried, it's stir-fried in the soy sauce mix, resulting in crispy shells and a fragrant finish.

YUN NANS_8
Braised Truffle Ee-fu Noodles with Fresh Scallops 4.2/5

Braised Ee-fu Noodles is one of my favourite dishes to order at Chinese restaurants. YUN NANS' rendition features the noodles in truffle sauce, with scallops and mushrooms. The noodles were cooked to just the right texture and soaked up the sauce thoroughly.

YUN NANS_9
Double Boiled Peach Gum with Snow Pear 桃胶炖雪梨 3.8/5

Our first dessert was a refreshing and sweet bowl of Double Boiled Peach Gum with Snow Pear made with peach gum, snow pear, red dates and wolfberries.

YUN NANS_10
Traditional Baked Rose Pastry 现烤玫瑰鲜花饼 3/5

We ended with a traditional Yunnan dessert, the Traditional Baked Rose Pastry ($6.80 for 3 Pieces). It is almost similar to a tau sar piah but filled with fresh rose petals. We appreciated how these were served warm, but the interior was a tad too doughy.

Do note that YUN NANS operating hours for reunion dinners on Chinese New Year Eve (21 January 2023) is as follows:

Session 1: 4.30pm to 6pm
Session 2: 6.30pm to 8pm
Session 3: 8.15pm to 9.45pm

They will be closed on 22 January 2023, while operating hours remain the same for the rest of the days.
