Sushiro @ Square 2 - Crowd Favourite Conveyor Belt Sushi Opens 18th Outlet in Novena
We’ve been big fans of Sushiro and were excited to learn that they’ve opened their newest and 18th outlet at Novena Square 2. It’s conveniently located right by the MRT exit to Square 2 - just head up the stairs and you’re there.
The outlet is spacious and brightly lit, consistent with Sushiro’s other locations. What we enjoy most are their seasonal menu launches and attractive promotions, which always give us a good reason to return. The easiest way to stay updated is via their Instagram, @sushirosingapore.
Crab lovers should not miss their ongoing “Claws for Celebration” seasonal menu. Our favourites included the light, crispy Soft Shell Crab ($4.90), the buttery, indulgent Mix Crab Stack with Crab Butter & Lemon ($5.90), and the Fresh Snow Crab ($3.90). The latter is also available in variations such as Aburi Fresh Snow Crab with Salt and Lemon ($3.90) and Aburi Soy Sauce Fresh Snow Crab ($3.90).
The Soft Shell Crab, in particular, was served piping hot and generously filled with crab roe.
This festive period, dine in at any Sushiro outlet to receive a free limited-edition Dakkosushi Ang Bao (a pack of six) with a minimum spend of $50. You’ll also receive an $8 return voucher, with both promotions available while stocks last.
Beyond the seasonal offerings, there’s an extensive selection of sushi and dishes to choose from. Expect classics such as Salmon Belly, Bluefin Fatty Tuna, Red Snapper, Yellowtail and Scallop, alongside creative items such as Cold Chawanmushi, Aburi Shrimp Cheese, Salmon with Avocado, and Marinated Sesame Young Yellowtail.
There are also fried items, sides, noodles, soups and desserts to round up the meal. Prices are indicated by coloured plates, starting from $2.90.
For added convenience, we recommend making a reservation in advance via the Sushiro mobile app and checking in upon arrival to ensure smooth seating.

Sky22 @ Courtyard by Marriott - Experience Sky22’s Mediterranean-Inspired Delights, A Limited-Time Menu Available Till 31 August 2023
This season, the special menu launch at Sky22 features Mediterranean-inspired flavours thoughtfully assembled by the restaurant's chefs. Featuring both a la carte options and set dinners, it offers dishes for starters, sharing plates, mains and desserts using flavours from countries like Greece, Italy, Spain and Morocco. The menu's emphasis is on proteins, the use of herbs, whole grains, spices and fresh vegetables.
If you are dining as a duo, the Set Dinner for Two is priced at $48/pax and $45/pax for a group of four. This time-limited menu will be available daily from 6pm to 10.30pm till 31 August 2023.
Sky22 boasts a breathtaking skyline view that surrounds the restaurant space. I recommend reserving a window seat if you are coming by - we were there for dinner and were rewarded with a gorgeous sunset. Our Set Dinner for two included a starter, two mains and two desserts of our choice.
Grilled Octopus 3.8/5
The Grilled Octopus ($28) showcased the Mediterranean influences using Muhammara, smoked paprika, capers and white anchovy. Unfortunately, the octopus was too chewy for my liking, though I appreciated the complementary bursts of sweet pomegranate and tang of capers.
Tiger Prawns 4/5
The Tiger Prawns ($32) main had a bed of squid ink rice cooked with garlic, chilli, and cognac. While the prawns fell short of expectations being slightly overcooked and dry, the miso butter slab gave the dish great depth. I recommend mixing the butter in before enjoying it.
Kleftiko 4/5
For our second main, we chose the Kleftiko ($36, Additional $6 Top Up for Set). It features a roasted lamb shank accompanied by potato, lemon and dukkah. My dining companion enjoyed the meat's gaminess more than I did and gave thumbs up to the meat's tenderness.
Apple Spiced Cake 4/5
The delightful Apple Spiced Cake ($14) was our first dessert choice. It was served with a butterscotch rum sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Although the alcohol spiked apples could have been cooked softer, the cake was moist with a pleasant hint of spices.
Chocolate Babka French Toast 4/5
Lastly, we had the Chocolate Babka French Toast ($12). The chefs used chocolate babka bread instead of the usual french toast to pair with a more refreshing, tangy-sweet labneh (a strained yoghurt). There were also bits of almond and a sesame brittle for added crunch.

Maji Curry @ Square 2 - Award-winning Japanese Curry Restaurant From Japan Impresses With Their Grandprix Winner Cheese Fondue Hamburg Curry Rice
Award-winning brand Maji Curry opened their very first outlet in Singapore, located within Novena Square 2 mall, alongside their current three outlets in Japan and another two worldwide. Their Japan store has made waves for having won the 2018 Kanda Curry Grand Prix the same year it opened, and now Maji Curry is bringing the very same award-winning dish to our shores.
Cheese Fondue Hamburg Curry 4/5
We tried the Cheese Fondue Hamburg Curry ($18.30), which has propelled the restaurant to fame. It comes with House-special Curry topped with a tender handmade Hamburg Steak and cheese fondue sauce on the side to pour atop the dish. Who knew that cheese and curry could pair so well together? Adding cheese to the dish helps amplify the curry's flavour, giving it a creamier and wholesome finish. Every order also comes with a saucer of the brand's take on fukujinzuke, a Japanese-style pickle, and a heap of crispy deep-fried shallots to sprinkle onto your rice.
Kushikatsu Curry Rice 3.8/5
The Kushikatsu Curry Rice ($16.50) features 5 kinds of deep-fried meat and vegetables on skewers atop Japanese rice doused in a savoury curry sauce. Kushikatsu is a classic delicacy from Japan, and if you love your deep-fried skewers, you'd love this dish. The meats are fried with a slightly thicker breaded exterior to a crunch on the outside while retaining their soft, tender texture within. You can dip the skewers into the curry to enhance its flavour.
Tonkatsu Omelette Curry 3.8/5
The Tonkatsu Omelette Curry ($18.50) comes with a panko-coated pork katsu atop a blanket of velvety omelette over Japanese rice, all in a huge plate of Maji Curry's signature gravy. Though a tad dry, the tonkatsu is tender with a nice crisp exterior. Like the rest of the dishes, the thick curry tasted moderately savoury with a mild sweetness. The spice aroma was strong, with a slight spice kick as well.
The humble restaurant is small and fuss-free. Customers can order from the electronic vending machines outside, take a number plate, find a table, and wait for their food which will be served relatively quick to your table. Sets are also available for the main dishes, which come with a salad and drink.

UYA @ Oasia Hotel Novena - Savour Outlet-exclusive Specialty Dishes and Signatures At UYA's Second Outlet
Uya, renowned for its top-notch unagi dishes, has opened its second outlet at Oasia Hotel Novena. This unagi restaurant offers a range of outlet-exclusive specialty dishes and signature creations that are sure to tantalize your taste buds. With a focus on quality, Uya sources live eels directly from fisheries on a weekly basis, ensuring the freshest ingredients for their dishes. These live eels are then prepared a la minute in various mouthwatering renditions by Uya's team of experienced Japanese chefs, led by the talented head chef.
Grilled Unagi Fin 4/5
Grilled Unagi Head 3.8/5
Diners can expect an array of new and irresistible bites crafted to complement Uya's selection of Japanese sakes, shochu, and beers. Among the highlights are three specialty skewers glazed in Uya's signature homemade sauce. The Grilled Unagi Fin ($6/Stick) and Grilled Unagi Head ($6/Stick) are perfect for those who appreciate the traditional Japanese way of enjoying different parts of the eel.
Yahata Maki 4/5
For a unique Kyoto specialty, try the Yahata Maki ($9/Stick), which combines crunchy and slightly bitter burdock root wrapped within tender unagi.
Smoky Unagi Ham 4/5
One standout dish is the Smoky Unagi Ham ($16). This tightly-rolled unagi is lightly seasoned with salt and grilled over sakura wood chips, imparting a distinct smoky ham-like flavor. The accompanying velvety cream cheese adds a rich mouthfeel, resulting in a delightful combination of flavors.
Crispy Unagi Bone 3.5/5
At Uya, you'll also encounter unique offerings like the Crispy Unagi Bone ($6), which provides a thin and crispy chip-like texture, a surprising treat for those unfamiliar with eating eel bones.
Liver Ponzu 2.5/5
Deep Fried Liver 2.5/5
Grilled Liver 3/5
Adventurous eaters can opt for the Eel's Liver prepared in three ways: Boiled ($9), Grilled ($9), and Deep-fried ($9). While the boiled version is served with ponzu sauce to balance the gaminess, the grilled and deep-fried variations help mask the intense flavors of the liver.
Oyster Tempura 3/5
Seafood lovers shouldn't miss the Oyster Tempura ($14), featuring plump and juicy Hiroshima oysters wrapped in shiso leaf and accompanied by a crispy coating. While the dish is served with salt, a tangy sauce could elevate the overall flavor profile.
Mullet Roe with Radish 3/5
Another a la carte dish at Uya is the Mullet Roe with Radish ($19). This dish showcases the savory and perfectly balanced flavors of mullet roe paired with white radish. The combination creates a delightful taste experience; however, it may be an acquired taste for those unfamiliar with enjoying mullet roe in its naked form.
Grilled Eel with Salt 4/5
One of Uya's expertly-executed offerings is the Grilled Eel with Salt ($23/$33/$46). This seemingly simple dish requires meticulous preparation, including filleting, deboning, butterflying, skewering, and grilling the eel with just the right amount of salt. This careful technique ensures that the natural flavors of the eel shine through, resulting in a delectable and satisfying culinary delight.
Healthy Unagi Rice Bowl 4/5
For those seeking a complete meal, Uya offers set meals that come with a side of refreshing and tangy salad, pickles, and miso soup with a hint of yuzu zest. The Healthy Unagi Rice Bowl ($29) features tender eel, natto (fermented soybeans), nagaimo (Japanese mountain yam), okra, sous vide egg, and garnishes like spring onions, seaweed, and Japanese ginger. However, the sticky mucilage from the ingredients may not be to everyone's liking.
Hitsumabushi Large 4.2/5
Hitsumabushi Medium 4.2/5
Undoubtedly, the highlight of Uya's menu is the Hitsumabushi ($35/$48). Served in two sizes, this bowl showcases glistening golden-brown unagi atop fluffy Niigata rice. Accompanied by a trio of condiments (spring onions, wasabi, and crispy nori), homemade umami dashi, pickled cucumbers, and miso soup with yuzu zest, the Hitsumabushi offers three ways to enjoy it. You can savor the original flavors of the grilled unagi and rice, enhance it with your choice of toppings, or pour the light dashi broth over the rice, reminiscent of an 'ocha-zuke' style. However, it's worth noting that the dashi broth at Uya leans towards the sweeter side compared to other unagi restaurants.
Sea Urchin and Wagyu Rice Bowl 4.2/5
For a luxurious and indulgent experience, try the Sea Urchin and Wagyu Rice Bowl ($55). This delectable dish combines thinly-sliced succulent rare beef, Hokkaido sea urchin, and briny ikura with freshly-grated wasabi, resulting in a harmonious blend of flavors.
Parfait 4/5
The Parfait ($12) is beautifully adorned with layers of sweetened azuki beans, creamy vanilla and matcha ice cream, chewy mochi balls, and velvety whipped cream. Each component contributes to a symphony of flavors and textures, creating a harmonious blend that will leave you wanting more.
With its outlet-exclusive dishes and commitment to serving quality unagi creations, Uya at Oasia Hotel Novena is a must-visit for unagi enthusiasts and Japanese cuisine lovers alike. Prepare to embark on a delightful culinary journey filled with the finest unagi delicacies that will leave you craving for more.

Your Deli Bite Cafe @ Novena Regency - Authentic Vietnamese Cuisine In A Contemporary Cosy Cafe Setting
Your Deli Bite is a cosy contemporary Vietnamese cafe located at Novena Regency. The cafe owner runs multiple Bahn Mi joints, and Your Deli Bite is her very first cafe concept, serving up some of her finest Vietnamese recipes. Over here, you can savour one of the best Bahn Mi in town and Vietnamese dishes less commonly found in Singapore.
Spring Rolls 4/5
We started with some familiar bites. The Spring rolls ($7.90) were skillfully wrapped with fresh prawns and fatty pork belly, giving the rolls an excellent meaty bite.
Special Pho 3.8/5
The owner is from Hanoi but lived in Ho Chih Min City before coming to Singapore. The pho recipe follows Ho Chih Min's style instead of Hanoi's version, as it contains no MSG and is less saltish. The Special Pho ($16.90) features a combination of beef flank, tendon, and meatballs with brisket cooked with the signature 9-hour slow-boiled broth. The broth was light, not too beefy, which I like, and enlivened with a squeeze of lime.
Crab Noodles 3/5
Crab Noodles ($16.90) was new to me. The broth is made with a reduction of pork bones and prawns, adding starch to give it that starchy consistency. The 'noodles' are actually our Mee Tai Mak, served with a handful of crab meat, prawn, pork meat, and quail egg. While broth has an enjoyable crustacean flavour with a light savoury depth, I don't quite enjoy the gluey texture.
Grilled Turmeric Fish 4.8/5
I highly recommend this Grilled Turmeric Fish ($14.50), a traditional Hanoi dish featuring grilled turmeric-marinated fish fillet tossed with sauteed scallions and dills. The fish fillets were prepared using whole fish, and each fillet was flaky, firm and tender. I love the amount of dill used, which gave the fish a citrus-like taste. You will be given sheets of dry rice paper with water and a plate of vermicelli and herbs to DIY your grilled fish spring roll.
Slizzing Pancake 4/5
We were surprised by how tasty this humble-looking Sizzling Pancake ($14.90) was. This pancake was yellow-tinted by turmeric, with a slightly charred glaze on the skin, giving it a tasty wok-hei flavour. It has a hint of sweetness, which melded well with the savoury filling of sauteed beansprouts, prawns and pork. Even the filling was laced with wok-hei flavour from the beansprouts. It was a tad greasy but lightened by the accompanying herbs and vegetables.
BBQ Pork Bahn Mi 4.5/5
As mentioned, one of the specialities here is Bahn Mi. The crusty and airy baguettes are worth coming back for. Our BBQ Pork Bahn Mi ($7.50) was loaded with flavourful BBQ pork with a drizzle of sweet chilli, with that iconic layer of pickled radish and carrot lining the baguette. Coupled with a rich Vietnamese Ice Black Coffee, they make such a satisfying meal!
Pear Chrysanthemum, Ice Black coffee
Egg Coffee
The Egg Coffee here came with a creamy creme brulee-like cap, but the foam-to-coffee ratio can be improved for a more full-bodied and creamy consistency. There is also a good range of housemade ice teas available. My ice Pear Chrysanthemum was refreshing with Nata de coco and diced pear bits.
Bánh Flan 4.5/5
Another must-try is the Bánh Flan. It is the Vietnamese version of the French crème caramel, which uses condensed or evaporated milk and is steamed instead of baked in an oven. Ours is served with ice and poured over with coffee. It was light and mellow sweet, and serving it in iced coffee gave it a depth of toasty bitterness, reinforcing the caramel notes.
