Jubilee Coffee House & Bar @ Netheravon Road (Changi Village) - The Old Bungalow Charm

IMG_5784ed

Converting the bungalow along Netheravon Road near Changi Village into a restaurant is Jubilee Coffee House & Bar , a sister restaurant of Coastal Settlement further down the road. The old bungalow has a nostalgic charm that serves up a selection of Western and Asian fare.

Ter Kar Bee Hoon 4.5/5

I go to know about Jubilee Coffee House & Bar after Christina brought me here for lunch a couple of months back. I am back here again for the Ter Kar Been Hoon ($15). Usually pig trotter bee hoon is dry version but here it is wet version with the aromatic scent of Chinese wine. It says something when I am back for the same dish.

Pork Curry Rice 4.2/5

The other dish we tried is the Pork Curry Rice ($18). The plate of rice comes with a huge serving of breaded pork with a fried egg. The pork cutlet is deep fried to golden brown, tender, moist and juicy. For a localised twist, a bowl of local curry is served on the side.

Ching Teng 4.5/5

For dessert, we tried the Ching Teng Cold ($7). Served in huge glass, the Ching Teng comes in abundance of ingredients that is perfect for the humid weather.

The first impression of the menu is that price is rather steep. However the food portion is actually quite generous. Hence I think it is quite reasonable. Food wise I am quite surprise by the quality and standard. If not for the distance, I would definitely go back more often to try the rest of their offering in the menu.

Miam Miam @ Westgate

miam miam spa

Miam Miam first started in Bugis, which I thought was once of the most ideal spot to test our their concept - modern, European - Japanese fusion. Now with a second outlet at Westgate, Miam Miam seems to have found its way into the heartlanders. Miam Miam @ Westgate has recently launched a executive Lunch menu. It comes with a soup, a main course ( Sandwich, Pasta or Rice), and rounding it up with a choice of coffee or tea.

Cream of Broccoli 2.8/5

We had Cream of Broccoli to start of the evening. It is not too green, hence, it didn't taste too 'raw' to me.

Miam Miam Spaghetti 3/5

Modern Yaki 3/5

For Pasta, we were presented with Miam Miam Spaghetti ($15.80++) and Modern Yaki ($14.80 ++). You can see the Japanese influence in there. The use of seaweed, bonito flakes and shimeiji mushrooms. I like the use of the savoury ingredients which flavors the pasta naturally without the need to drown them in sauce. Honestly, for both pasta, the taste is there. What disappoints me is that both pasta were way under cooked. If not for that, I would have enjoyed both of them very more.

Riz Noir 3.5/5

Riz Au Curry 3/5

For Rice, we had a choice of Riz Noir ($17.80++) and Riz Au Curry ($14.80++). Again for these 2 dishes, the Japanese elements remains strong. I enjoyed the squid ink rice which remains firm to bite and the sweet milky tamago on top, which complements the savoury rice and seafood. The Riz Au Curry is a crowd pleaser with favourite ingredients such as pork frankfurters, broccoli, cheese and egg, combined and baked in homemade Japanese curry.

teriyaki chix
Teriyaki Chicken 2.8/5

Available also are sandwich offerings such as Teriyaki Chicken ($15.80++) or BLT ($11.80++). I would suggest giving these a miss and opt for either their Pasta or Rice. I mean why sandwiches, when you can try their signature dishes?

pancake
Matcha Red Bean Cream Pancake 3.5/5

Ordering 2 executive Lunch sets will get you and your partner a complimentary Matcha Red Bean Cream Pancake ($12.80 ++). Due to its thickness, the pancake can be a bit dry but the cream gels it well with the melt-in-your-mouth jelly. When I bite into coffee flavoured jelly. Explosive is the word! This really give you the best bang for your buck.

Depending on which dish you choose, at $17.90++ per pax, and together with the complimentary dessert can be quite value for your money. Hence, if you happen to be working around here or have some time to spare for a nice lunch, give it a try.

Ramen Kagetsu Arashi @ The Cathay

IMG_1794ed

Yet another big ramen chain in Japan has expanded oversea  to our shore in Singapore. Within a short span of 6 months, Ramen Kagetsu Arashi ranked third in Japan for popularity has already opened 3 outlets in Singapore.

Ginjiro Ramen 4.2/5

With the opening of the new outlets in Singapore, Ramen Kagetsu Arashi is introducing the Ginjiro Ramen ($13.90) which is already a hit in Japan and Taiwan. The first noticeable different of Kagetsu Ramen is the used of hard boiled egg instead soft boiled egg. The broth was simmered for long hours to extract the sweetness from the pork bones before adding dried bonito, kelp and several other ingredients to create a harmonious blend.

IMG_1802ed

Acknowledging that patrons have their own preference and to enhance individual's experience and enjoyment, patrons can customise and give the flavours a lift by adding one of the four add-ons with the freshly crushed garlic, special in house seasoned chives, specially imported black pepper and soy sauce made from Kagetsu Ramen's secret recipe passed down from generation to generation. My favourite was the black pepper.

Arashi Genkotsu Ramen 4.2/5

If you prefer something spicy, Arashi Genkotsu Ramen ($14.90) will be for you. It is the number one favourite in Kagetsu Ramen outlets in Japan. The broth first hit the palate with its rich natural sweetness before a tsunami of spiciness lands on the palate giving it a lingering sensation.

IMG_1799ed
Gyoza 3/5

The Gyoza ($6) is made from the skin specially imported from Japan. The skin has a chewy texture which may be interpreted as a bit too doughy. Filling was lackluster as I could hardly tasted the pork filling inside.

Itameshi Dry Curry Rice 4/5

A brand new offering at Kagetsu Ramen is the Itameshi Dry Curry Rice ($12.90). Served sizzling hot, a special sauce is poured into the rice and given a good mix coating each grain with the blend of spicies, egg, butter and special sauce. A very delectable plate of rice what comes with a crispy texture and smoky aroma.
