It is a must-try dish that celebrates the bold and vibrant flavours of the Caribbean.

The Curried Goat ($30) showcases tender goat meat cooked in a flavourful curry sauce alongside potatoes and carrots. To complete the meal, ripe plantains are served alongside the curried goat. The sweet and caramelised flavours of the ripe plantains provide a delightful contrast to the savoury curry, adding a touch of sweetness. The dish is also served with rice and peas. The rice is cooked with flavourful coconut milk and kidney beans, infusing it with a creamy and aromatic quality.

Mutiara Seafood @ Wisma Geylang Serai - First-ever Halal-certified Seafood Restaurant By JUMBO Group

MutiaraSeafood25

JUMBO Group opens Mutiara Seafood, their first-ever Halal-certified Seafood concept nestled in the heart of Geylang Serai. Mutiara Seafood shines as a culinary gem within the vibrant Wisma Geylang Serai, with its name derived from the Malay word for' pearl'. This seafood restaurant brings together an unprecedented array of Singaporean-style seafood dishes alongside exclusive grilled creations.

MutiaraSeafoodRestaurant-1

Boasting a seating capacity of 176, Mutiara Seafood also offers four private dining rooms, each with a contemporary ambience suitable for exclusive gatherings, business or personal events.

MutiaraSeafood33
Crispy Fried Baby Squid 4.2/5

Our dinner began with the Crispy Fried Baby Squid ($16), expertly deep-fried to achieve a delectable crispness. Tossed in a sweet and savoury sauce, this dish was delightful and addictive, heightened by a sprinkle of sesame seeds that added a touch of aromatic goodness.

MutiaraSeafood14
Seafood Pumpkin Soup 4/5

Next, we indulged in the Seafood Pumpkin Soup ($32/$48/$64), a hearty and comforting concoction. The soup's flavour boasted depth, with the sweetness of the pumpkin harmonizing perfectly with the delicate seafood. The combination yielded a creamy texture that enveloped our palates in pure satisfaction.

MutiaraSeafood4
Indonesia Grilled Chicken 4.2/5

The Indonesia Grilled Chicken ($20 Half/$36 Whole) showcased JUMBO Seafood's prowess in grilling to perfection. A rich umami flavour from the careful spice marinade enhanced each succulent and juicy bite. The caramelized glaze, created by the marriage of kecap manis and the grill's heat, lent a glossy and sticky coating to the chicken. This glaze enhanced the dish's appearance and added a subtle sweetness that complemented the savoury flavours exquisitely.

MutiaraSeafood5
Kang Kong Stir Fried with Sambal 4/5

Kang Kong Stir Fried with Sambal ($14/$21/$28) showcased the vibrant green colour and satisfying crunch of the kang kong vegetable. The soul of the dish lay in the sambal, which imparted a punchy and fiery shiokness, elevating the overall experience.

MutiaraSeafood1
Grilled Red Tilapia Fish with Sambal 4/5

We then relished in the Grilled Red Tilapia Fish with Sambal ($40), where meaty red snapper took centre stage. Layered with a punchy chilli sambal, the fish was grilled to mouth-watering perfection, allowing the flavours to meld harmoniously.

MutiaraSeafood24
Signature Chilli Crab 4.5/5

A visit to Mutiara Seafood would only be complete with savouring their Signature Chilli Crab (market price). This iconic Singaporean dish featured sweet and fleshy crab drenched in JUMBO Seafood's signature sweet and spicy chilli sauce, best enjoyed with deep-fried mantou buns. The halal rendition of this beloved classic lived up to its renowned reputation.

MutiaraSeafood18
Signature Black Pepper Crab 4.5/5

Another must-try is the Signature Black Pepper Crab (market price), showcasing the marriage of fresh crab's natural sweetness with black pepper's aromatic and spicy notes. Embrace the messiness and savour the crab with all its flavourful glory.

MutiaraSeafood23
Jimbaran Grilled Prawns 4.2/5

The Jimbaran Grilled Prawn ($28/4pc) made an impressive entrance with its substantial size. Cooked in classic Balinese style, these prawns were treated to a deep rub and marinade of Jimbaran spices, resulting in a tantalising burst of flavours.

MutiaraSeafood22
Mee Goreng 4.2/5

The Mee Goreng ($20/$30/$40) was a standout choice to satisfy noodle cravings. The noodles were expertly wok fired to smoky perfection in the traditional Malay style. The sweet, spicy, and savoury sauce coated the noodles impeccably, and a squeeze of calamansi provided a refreshing tang. Prawns and squid were generously incorporated to elevate the dish further.

MutiaraSeafood13
Mango Pudding 4/5

Finally, we indulged in the Mango Pudding ($5) and Sweet Yam Paste ($5) to conclude our meal on a sweet note. The Mango Pudding delighted us with its soft and creamy texture, garnished with fresh mango that added a fruity freshness. However, the Sweet Yam Paste caught our attention with its unique twist on the traditional dessert. Accompanied by a sweet corn soup, this rendition provided a delightful contrast of flavours and textures that satisfied us thoroughly.

MutiaraSeafood12
Sweet Yam Paste 4.2/5

In conclusion, Mutiara Seafood by JUMBO Group is a remarkable addition to the seafood dining scene in Singapore. Its Halal certification offers a welcoming and inclusive environment for diners seeking authentic Singaporean-style seafood dishes. From the crispy and addictive appetisers to the succulent grilled specialities and signature crab dishes, every bite at Mutiara Seafood was a testament to JUMBO Seafood's culinary expertise. Coupled with the elegant dining space and attentive service, a visit to Mutiara Seafood promises a memorable gastronomic experience that will surely please seafood enthusiasts and discerning diners alike.

Ba Guo Grilled Fish (巴国烤鱼) @ West Coast Plaza - New Outlet In The West Offering Grilled Fish & Sichuan Cuisine

BaGuo4

It was with great delight to know that Ba Guo Grilled Fish (巴国烤鱼) has opened a new outlet near my home at West Coast Plaza. It prides itself on offering authentic Sichuan cuisine suitable for the Singaporean palate.

BaGuo2
Fragrant Grilled Fish 4.5/5

Eight different types of grilled fish are available on the menu. I had the chance to try three of them - Fragrant Grilled Fish ($38.80), Fei Cui Yang Sheng Fish ($38.80) and Green Pepper Grilled Fish ($32.80). In addition, diners have the option of adding extra ingredients cooked in the broth.

BaGuo19
Fei Cui Yang Sheng Fish 4/5

My favourite among the three grilled fishes is the Fragrant Grilled Fish. It has the right balance of mala and spicy for an aromatic finish. It even comes with clams and prawns in a delicious and drinkable broth. The fish itself is crispy on the exterior while moist and soft inside. If you can't take spicy food, you can go for the Fei Cui Yang Sheng Fish, the non-spicy version of the fragrant grilled fish.

BaGuo-08
Green Pepper Grilled Fish 3.8/5

I have tried Green Pepper Grilled Fish ($32.80) from another grilled fish restaurant, and the version here lacks the piquant from the peppercorn. In addition, it is too mild for my liking.

BaGuo9
Hot & Spicy Crab 4/5

Besides the grilled fish, the restaurant also offers several Sichuan dishes on the menu. We tried a couple beginning with the Hot & Spicy Crab ($68). Besides the crab, there are potatoes, lotus roots and green pepper. It may look spicy, but I find it more aromatic than spicy, coming from the various Chinese spices used in the cooking.

BaGuo14
Fragrant Pot Bullfrog 4.2/5

Another lovely dish is the Fragrant Pot Bullfrog ($42.80). It's pretty similar to the hot & spicy crab, except that the crab is replaced with the bullfrog. I enjoyed this more, and it was cheaper.

BaGuo8
Handmade Tofu 4/5

There are also non-spicy dishes on the menu, such as Homemade Tofu ($16), which is so soft and silky smooth. It is blanked in a pool of delicious sauce comprising minced pork and greens.

BaGuo23
Brown Sugar Ice Jelly 3.8/5

The Brown Sugar Ice Jelly ($3.50) is the perfect ending to the dinner. The cold and refreshing dessert helps to wash down all the richness.

Mariners' Corner Restaurant @ Sunset Way - The Hainanese Western Restaurant Has Moved To The West

MarinersCornerSunsetWay-50

Suppose you are fans of Mariners' Corner Restaurant, which used to be at Maritime House. In that case, you will be glad to know that the Hainanese Western restaurant has moved to Sunset Way at Clementi Street 12. Stepping into the restaurant, I felt that I had been transported to the 1980s, giving me a nostalgic feel.

MarinersCornerSunsetWay-46

After browsing through the menu, we decided to add an extra $5.80 for a complete set meal, complementing the main course with a bowl of Salad, Soup of the Day, Garlic Bread. Coffee/Tea and dessert.

MarinersCornerSunsetWay-08

MarinersCornerSunsetWay-11

MarinersCornerSunsetWay-09
We started with the Salad Bowl dressed in thousand island sauce, followed by Garlic Bread and Creamy Chicken Soup. There is nothing wow to shout about but classic old-school starters to kickstart the meal before the main course.

MarinersCornerSunsetWay-21
Calamari with Tar Tar Sauce 3/5

We decided to order a plate of Calamari with Tar Tar Sauce ($7.50) for the appetiser. Unfortunately, while we enjoyed the crispy batter, we found the squid was a bit rubbery.

MarinersCornerSunsetWay-32

MarinersCornerSunsetWay-40
New Zealand Ribeye Steak 4.2/5

For my main, I decided to go for the New Zealand Ribeye Steak ($27) served with baked potato and buttered veggies. For the sauces, there are five choices - black pepper, mushroom, garlic shallot, BBQ and sambal. I decided to go for the black pepper sauce for the steak. I find it value-for-money for the quality of beef and price. What I find weird is the topping for the baked potato. It uses deep-fried garlic instead of bacon. I am not sure this is the norm, but I am used to having it with bacon instead of deep-fried garlic.

MarinersCornerSunsetWay-27
Grilled King Snapper 2.8/5

My partner has the Grilled King Snapper ($23.50) paired with Almonds with Lemon Butter sauce for the other main. I thought it was lacklustre, lacking the sharpness in flavour to lift the fresh catch. I was expecting it to be more grilled too. Instead, it was too plain, missing the char-grilled aroma.

MarinersCornerSunsetWay-42

Finally, wrapping up our set meal is a slice of Fruit Cake with chocolate sauce. Actually, Mariners' Corner reminds me of Jack's Place with its interior decor and food, providing a nostalgic charm that is slowly disappearing in an urbanised country like Singapore.

Bedrock Origin @ Oasia Resort Sentosa - Acclaimed Home-grown Steakhouse Launches Second Restaurant

BedrockOrigin54

Following the success of Bedrock Bar & Grill at Somerset, the team has opened a second restaurant - Bedrock Origin at the new Oasia Resort Sentosa. Bedrock Origin features more diverse ingredients compare to its flagship restaurant. Diners can look forward to a new and exclusive selection of seafood, dry-aged meats including fish, as well as roasted harvests, in addition to the perennial mush-have steaks.

BedrockOrigin7
Kingfish Sashimi 4.5/5

We started the dinner with the appetising Kingfish Sashimi ($32). The sashimi is topped with brown rice puff, chopped wasabi and micro herbs. Bringing the dish together and giving it a zesty finishing is the ceviche soy dressing.

BedrockOrigin13
Grilled Pear Salad 4/5

Next is the Grilled Pear Salad ($22) tossed in blue cheese dressing. For those that are not a fan of blue cheese, the dressing is not that piquant, balanced by the fruity sweetness from the pear and medjool dates with the walnut for the extra nuttiness and texture.

BedrockOrigin43
Aged Kuhlbarra Barramundi Tail 4.5/5

Dry-aged for seven days to intensify the flavour is the Aged Kuhlbarra Barramundi Tail ($88). Chimichurri which consists of parsley, thyme, chervil, garlic, white wine vinegar and olive oil, is spread onto the fishtail. Each mouthfeel of the moist fish meat has a zest, piquant flavours of chilli and herbs.

BedrockOrigin42
Turbot On The Bone 4.2/5

The Turbot On The Bone ($68) is exclusively imported from France. It is dry-aged for three days and cooked with the bone on, using the bone to transfer the heat evenly and retain the juiciness of the fish. It is served with kombu compound butter and tomato salsa.

BedrockOrigin35
Plant-Based Beef Wellington 3/5

We moved back to the land from the sea, starting with the Plant-Based Beef Wellington ($38). In support of Oasia Resort Sentosa's wellness lifestyle, Bedrock Origin also offers plant-based meat alternatives, as well as nutritious and keto-friendly options. The plant-based meatloaf is marinated with marmite and worcestershire sauce encased in a puff pastry, served alongside a mixed green salad and cherry tomatoes with lemon vinaigrette. An excellent alternative for vegetarians, but I still prefer the real stuff.

BedrockOrigin52
Dry-Aged Australian Barley-Fed Bone in Striploin ($110) 400g 4.2/5

My go-to will still be the real meat in the Dry-Aged Australian Barley-Fed Bone in Striploin ($110), about 400g. The in-house dry-aged striploin is simply seasoned with salt and pepper, grilled over applewood fire. The beautiful red meat is juicy and tender, with a hint of smokiness. Diners can have it with the following sauces - red wine, Bedrock chilli oil, classic bearnaise and wholegrain whisky mustard.

BedrockOrigin47
Yukon Gold Potatoes 4.5/5

BedrockOrigin37
Spicy Brussel Sprouts 4.2/5

BedrockOrigin57
Bedrock Mac N Cheese 4.5/5

To go along with the mains, diners can order a number of sides to complement them. Some of the side dishes we had were Yukon Gold Potatoes ($16), Spicy Brussel Sprouts ($16) and Bedrock Mac N Cheese ($22).

BedrockOrigin63
Palm Tarte 4/5

Wrapping up our dinner is the Palm Tarte ($22). The gula melaka chiffon cake is coated with mascarpone cream cheese paired with Bailey's Irish Cream  & Brandy infused walnut-raisin tapenade, housenade marmalade, fresh raspberries and blueberries.

BedrockOrigin61
