Bonjour by Ma Cuisine @ Craig Road - Breakfast With A Parisian Vibe

IMG_2650

The much-beloved Michelin-starred Ma Cuisine has introduced Bonjour by Ma Cuisine, capturing a Parisian bistro's casual and relaxed charm. Sharing the same space at Craig Road, the menu is crafted with classic French breakfast and lunch favourites, reimagined with a modern touch.

IMG_2629
Poireaux Vinaigrette 4/5

For appetisers, we tried the Poireaux Vinaigrette ($15.80) and a Lyonnaise speciality, Quenelle De Brochet Sauce Nantua ($20.80). The first is a traditional French dish featuring leeks slow-cooked to tender perfection, drizzled with a tangy mustard vinaigrette, and topped with delicate mimosa egg crumbles. I love leeks, and this dish didn't disappoint — their almost creamy texture was beautifully complemented by the bright acidity of the vinaigrette and the richness of the egg crumbles, with crispy mini bread crumbles adding a satisfying contrast.

IMG_2666
Quenelle De Brochet Sauce Nantua 5/5

The Quenelle De Brochet ($20.80) pays homage to Lyon's culinary heritage. It is similar to our fish paste but with a much softer, almost creamy texture and a subtly milky taste. The accompanying sauce, Nantua — a luxurious crayfish butter sauce enriched with cream and Cognac — adds depth of flavour while further enhancing the dish's rich, velvety mouthfeel.

IMG_2653
Croque Madame Truffé 4/5

For a more breakfast-leaning option, the bistro's Croque Madame Truffé ($28.80) takes indulgence to the next level. Extra-crispy, thin and buttery sourdough encases truffle, Comté cheese, and ham. But what truly stole the show for me was the beautifully and meticulously executed sunny-side-up egg — its golden yolk glistening in a deep orangey hue, beckoning to be unveiled.

IMG_2641
Linguine au Parmesan 4.5/5

Another much-raved-about dish is the handmade Linguine au Parmesan ($14.90). Tossed in a sauce made with 24-month-aged Parmigiano Reggiano, the handmade tagliatelle was cooked to the perfect doneness, allowing it to uphold the richness of the sauce while remaining surprisingly light on the palate. Personally, I would have enjoyed it even more with a crack of coarse black pepper.

IMG_2675
Coquelet Français Rôti 4.5/5

The Coquelet Français Rôti ($19.90), a rustic French spring roast chicken seasoned with herbes de Provence, garlic, and butter, was simple but well executed. It offered crisped skin and succulent, flavourful meat.

IMG_2682
Trou Normand 4/5

IMG_2690
Crème Caramel 5/5

We tried the Trou Normand ($12.60) and Crème Caramel ($9.80) for desserts. The first was a scoop of apple sorbet with a shot of Calvados Château du Breuil 15 YO, delivering a boozy and refreshing kick that awakened my senses. The latter was a comforting classic, featuring a smooth, decadent custard dressed in bittersweet caramelised sugar.

IMG_2616

To round off the experience, sip on a glass of wine or indulge in classic French apéritifs such as Kir Royal and Mimosa.

Mansion 7 @ Tanjong Pagar - Exquisite Dim Sum and Classic Cantonese Creations with Innovative Twists

IMG_9799

Mansion 7 is a relatively new Cantonese restaurant located in the outdoor car park next to Tanjong Pagar MRT. It offers creative twists on classic Cantonese dishes while maintaining the use of high-quality ingredients and exquisite presentation.

IMG_9854

IMG_9721

The space is well-suited for gatherings and business meetings. The staff was enthusiastic about ensuring our comfort and knowledgeable about their food.

Chicken Wing Stuffed with Bird’s Nest and Crab 4.2/5

We started with an off-menu special: Chicken Wing Stuffed with Bird's Nest and Crab. While the filling was milder than we expected, its natural flavours shone through, complemented by a crispy exterior.

IMG_9736

IMG_9745
椒盐活鮑魚 Salt & Pepper Live Abalone 4.5/5

The 椒盐活鮑魚 Salt & Pepper Live Abalone (Seasonal Price) was such a treat. The abalone was perfectly tender with a slight crunch, coated in an addictive chili seasoning. Both my dining partner and I agreed it was one of the best abalone dishes we’ve had recently.

IMG_9753

IMG_9758
潮州金鱼饺 Angel Goldfish Dumplings 4.2/5

Next, dim sum dishes arrived, beginning with the beautifully presented 潮州金鱼饺 Angel Goldfish Dumplings ($11 for 3). Wrapped in delicate skin, the filling of mushrooms, lemongrass, and crab meat was unexpectedly tangy but harmonised well.

IMG_9762

IMG_9770
七号公馆樱花虾饺 Mansion 7 Fresh Prawn Dumpling 4.5/5

We moved to the steamed items, starting with their signature 七号公馆樱花虾饺 Mansion 7 Fresh Prawn Dumpling ($9 for 3). The thin skin was on point and carried within it juicy prawn chunks.

IMG_9773
芋茸流沙包 Taro 'Lava' Buns 3.8/5

The 芋茸流沙包 Taro 'Lava' Buns ($9 for 3) were slightly too sweet for our liking, and we wished for a stronger yam flavour.

IMG_9777
冲绳黑糖叉烧包 Okinawa Brown Sugar Char Siew Bun 4.2/5

In contrast, the 冲绳黑糖叉烧包 Okinawa Brown Sugar Char Siew Bun ($9 for 3) fared a lot better. I am not usually a fan of char siew buns due to how sweet they can get, but Mansion 7’s rendition is well-balanced, featuring a subtle brown sugar fragrance and smoky char siew.

IMG_9793
脆炸麻婆豆腐卷 Si Chuan Mapo Tofu Beancurd Rolls 4/5

The 脆炸麻婆豆腐卷 Si Chuan Mapo Tofu Beancurd Rolls ($9), while slightly oily, delivered a bold spice and crunch. The map tofu filling alone would be perfect with white rice.

IMG_9779

IMG_9786
杏香百花萝卜糕 Carrot Squid Paste Cake 4.2/5

Mansion 7's inventive twists on dim sum can be seen in many dishes, such as the 杏香百花萝卜糕 Carrot Squid Paste Cake ($10). This dish features carrot cake layered with squid paste, served with a side of Thai sweet chilli sauce.

IMG_9810
Lobster in Salted Egg and Butter Cream Sauce 4/5

Apart from dim sum, Mansion 7 also offers a wide range of live seafood, vegetables, barbecue meats and more. We had the Lobster in Salted Egg and Butter Cream Sauce (Seasonal Price) and while the lobster was very fresh, I personally preferred a strong salted egg flavour. Other flavours are available to order, including steamed in HK style, sashimi style, wok-baked with truffle sauce and more.

IMG_9842
梁祝鸳鸯蝴蝶酥 Love Story of Thousand Layer Butterfly Puff 4.2/5

Moving on to desserts, we began with the visually stunning 梁祝鸳鸯蝴蝶酥 Love Story of Thousand Layer Butterfly Puff ($11). Its delicate, flaky layers enclosed a mildly sweet sweet potato filling.

IMG_9844
开心果麻糍 Homemade Pistachio Mochi 4.2/5

We enjoyed the 开心果麻糍 Homemade Pistachio Mochi ($9) as well even though the mochi skin was not chewy type we expected. It was generously stuffed with crushed pistachio filling, being nutty and fragrant.

IMG_9828
招牌北海道3.6现烤芝士塔 3.6 Hokkaido Cheese Tart 4.2/5

My favourite dessert was the 招牌北海道3.6现烤芝士塔 3.6 Hokkaido Cheese Tart ($13). These tiny bites were amazing, with oozy lava-like cheese filling contained in an extremely light and flaky tart shell. The cheese was rich but not overpowering.

IMG_9814

IMG_9822
雪莲子鸡蛋茶 Mt. Fresh Picked Chinese Herbal Egg Treasure Tea 3.8/5

Finally, we tried the 雪莲子鸡蛋茶 Mt. Fresh Picked Chinese Herbal Egg Treasure Tea ($8), a unique traditional dish of hard-boiled quail eggs infused in a tea base with Chinese herbs and spices. This was more of an acquired taste.

Murger Han @ Shenton Way - London Famous Xi'an Restaurant Opens In Singapore Serving Signature Biang Biang Noodles

IMG_9663

UK-based Murger Han has built a strong following across its four London outlets for its authentic Xi'an cuisine. Now, it has opened its first Asian outpost in Singapore at Robinson Centre.

IMG_9640

IMG_9685
3-in-1 Noodles 4.5/5

The casual eatery offers its signature dishes at reasonable prices, with the highlight being its hand-pulled Biang Biang Noodles. We tried the 3-in-1 Noodles ($8.80), featuring a mix of tomato egg sauce, spring onion, chilli oil, and stir-fried vegetables. For the protein, diners can choose from Braised Pork, Slow-Cooked Lamb, Slow-Cooked Beef, or Beef Brisket. We opted for braised pork.

I loved the thick and chewy noodles paired with well-balanced flavours of sweetness, savouriness, and a touch of tang.

For those wanting more variety, the 5-in-1 Noodles ($9.80) include two meat choices, while simpler options such as Spring Onion & Chili Oil Noodles ($6.80) and Tomato & Egg Sauce Noodles ($6.80) are also available.

IMG_9649
Crusty Murger with Pork 3.8/5

Another signature is the murger, available with a normal or crispy crust and a choice of fillings. We tried the Crusty Murger with Pork ($5.80), but while the bread was flaky, it lacked crunch, and we found the filling slightly too salty. Other options include Lean Pork and Spicy Chicken with Peppers and Cumin.

IMG_9665

IMG_9691
Steamed Rice Noodles with Seasonal Vegetables 4/5

We also had the Steamed Rice Noodles with Seasonal Vegetables ($6.80), which were fresh, slightly chewy, and well-seasoned. We added a portion of Sesame Sauce ($1), which contributed a creamy nuttiness, though we wished the chilli oil had packed more heat.

IMG_9656

IMG_9673
Lamb Soup with Tofu, Vermicelli and Vegetables 4/5

For something warm, the Lamb Soup with Tofu, Vermicelli, and Vegetables ($7.80) was substantial. It featured lamb slices, vermicelli, and small dough-like noodles. While I found the lamb's gaminess very strong, my dining partner enjoyed the comforting broth.

IMG_9655

IMG_9670
Mixed Salad 2/5

However, the Mixed Salad ($7.80) was the least impressive, as the flavours were relatively muted.

Latido @ Tras Street - Singapore's First and Only Colombian Restaurant

Latido17

Latido celebrates the vibrant, playful culture of Latin America. It is led by veteran Chef Fernando Arévalo, who hails from Bogotá, Colombia, but has considered Singapore his home for over a decade. Chef Arévalo's impressive background and previous concepts include the highly regarded Preludio and Bacatá.

LatidoIG-1

Latido offers dishes that work well to introduce Colombian food to the local Singaporean palate whilst providing a few more unique dishes to pique the interest of the adventurous, such as chicken hearts and rabbit meat. The menu concisely reflects the recent trend in diner's preferences. It is offered in an à la carte format, allowing diners to curate their own experience and choose dishes at their own pace and comfort level. They also offer a very tempting lunch deal, which is worth checking out.

LatidoIG-3

The restaurant is very spacious, a luxury in the Tanjong Pagar area. Spanning two shophouses, the restaurant offers two distinct dining areas with different vibes. One side features a long chef's table crafted from Brazilian wood, allowing diners to watch the chefs work up close. This brightly lit area creates a lively, casual, and relaxed atmosphere reminiscent of dining at a close friend's house. On the other side, the ambience shifts to a more intimate setting with individual tables and mood lighting, offering a cosier dining experience. The restaurant is also decorated with arts and crafts sourced from indigenous Colombian tribes. Look out for the unique wine bottle carved out of a hoof!

Latido2
Bocados de Tiradito 4/5

Bocado translates to mean a mouthful or a bite, and we started our dinner with two flavourful bites: one with Tiradito, a lighter version of ceviche, and one with white corn.

The Bocados de Tiradito ($22) looks like the local favourite Kueh Pie Tee but is filled with ceviche. Sawara (Spanish Mackerel) is used, with leche de Tigre and pearls of lime vinegar inside the kueh pie tee shell, infused with coriander seed. It's tasty, with a bit of a creaminess, but not as much of the brightness that I'm used to with cured fish.

Latido12
Bocados de Maiz 4.5/5

The Bocados de Maiz ($16) was new and interesting for me. Very crunchy white corn is on top of a crispy cassava tart base, layered with avocado mousse and a touch of Aji Amarillo (chilli pepper). Palm sugar pearls contribute a hint of sweetness. The dish is finished with parmesan cheese shavings. A lovely combination of flavours and textures!

Latido14
Pan de la Casa 4.5/5

Next, we had Chef Fernando's signature rye bread, Pan de la Casa ($8), a recipe he has perfected over the years. The rye bread is glazed with fermented mushrooms and maple, and you can taste the earthy flavour coming through. It's paired with a rich, caramelised-infused butter that I happily slathered all over my bread.

Latido19
Arepa de Chocolo Y Huevo 4.8/5

The Arepa is a traditional cornmeal flatbread with roots in indigenous Colombian culture, offering what feels like a cross between a pancake and a taco. Chef Fernando shared that there are many regional variations of the Arepa, and this particular version hails from the Northern part of Colombia. The Arepa de Chocolo y Huevo ($22) features a sweetcorn cake stuffed with a fried egg, and savoury cured pork jowl, which is finished with a touch of spicy paprika. Absolutely delicious, a must-try!

Latido24
Arepan Conejo 4.5/5

Next, we tried a unique dish featuring braised rabbit, which is not so commonly served in Singapore. The Arepan Conejo ($38) stars tender, juicy rabbit sourced from Hungary, served on a cassava wrap that has a nice chewy, mochi-like texture. The dish is complemented by bacon, parmesan cheese, and pickled onions. It's recommended to fold it up and enjoy it with your hands, letting the tasty juices drip as you savour each bite. The rabbit itself has a mild, chicken-like flavour and is cooked till very tender.

Latido31
Sopa Langousta 4.5/5

The Sopa Langousta ($50) is expertly crafted. It features lobster that's lightly poached to retain a sashimi-like texture. The dish also includes chunks of creamy avocado, delightful corn bits, and a warm, velvety potato soup to tie everything together.

LatidoIG-9

Latido38
Lechonista 4.2/5

We eagerly anticipated the Lechonista ($38 per 100g), especially after watching the preparation of the suckling pig while enjoying other courses. It's served pulled pork style with pickled chilli and paired with cassava wraps, pork jus sauce, and pickled onions.

Latido42

We were encouraged to wrap everything together for an enjoyable bite. What I really appreciated about this dish is that this suckling pig dish didn't have the strong, sometimes overwhelming pork flavour that you may find in other preparations.

Latido46
Plantainitos 4.2/5

There's only one dessert option on the menu — Plantainitos ($16) — and it showcases plantains, which are starchy fruits similar to bananas but typically less sweet. Plantains can be used ripe or unripe, and the ripe version is chosen for this dessert. A layer of cake made with dates, toffee, and rum is topped with smooth, creamy burrata ice cream.

It was a fun evening exploring Colombian ingredients and flavours, presented in a way that was accessible and delicious for our taste buds. We also appreciated the warm service and the friendly hospitality from the staff, which contributed to the overall experience.

Penned by Shermine. Through her pictures and stories, she shares her journey of savouring new flavours and experiences. Note: This is an invited tasting.
