DSTLLRY @ Infinite Studios

IMG_2828ed

If I have not known about Dstllry at Infinite Studios through social media, I would have never know that there is a cocktail bar behind the glass wall. Walking pass the place, I would have just pass off the place as an art gallery.

Besides the bar drinks and cocktails, Dstllry also offers an eight course Omakase menu at $120 nett per person. For lunch, the menu is small and simple, focusing on a variety of rice don bowls and ramen.

Upon placing our orders, we were served complimentary Tomato Egg. Nothing fantastic but we do appreciate the kind gesture.

Salmon Belly (aburi) Don 4.5/5

For those that does not like raw sashimi, the Salmon Belly Aburi Don ($16.90) will be a good option. The salmon is bring torched on the surface, giving the fatty salmon an additional textural enjoyment on top of the vinegar Japanese rice.

Barachirashi Don 4.2/5

Another popular choice is the Barachirash Don ($16.90) that comes with chunks of sashimi, fish roes and topped with seaweed and sesame. The sashimi has been marinated for a lift in flavour which is quite similar to what is served at Teppei and Hanare. This is a hearty and comforting bowl of barachirash don to satisfy the hunger.

I was at Dstillry on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. I enjoyed the quiet ambience for a peaceful lunch even the interior is bar setting. However I can't say that it will remain so in the future with more offices and Mediacorp moving into the vicinity.

Hoopla Coffee and Kitchen @ Infinite Studios

IMG_1656ed

Hoopla Coffee and Kitchen was an accidental discovery. I did not even know of its existence. My inital plan was to check out Revolution Coffee at Infinite Studios. I could not get a seat at Revolution Coffee and since the place was really crowded, I have no choice but to go to Hoopla Coffee and Kitchen which is just a couple of steps away. I was initally a bit septical as it was rather quiet compared to their neighbour. I had a chat with the barista and realized that it was only opened for a week during my visit. Maybe that is why most of the crowd ended at Revolution Coffee.

Cafe Latte

Hoopla Coffee and Kitchen uses coffee bean from Toby's Estate. My cup of Cafe Latte came with a piece of waffle biscuit instead of the usual cookies. A nice change as I like these traditional waffle buscuit.

Florentine 4/5

From the all day breakfast menu, I ordered the Florentine ($14) which has wilted baby spinach on toast topped with poach eggs and hollandaise sauce, served with some vinegrette greens at the side. Wilted Baby spinach on toast poachedggs hollandaise vinegrette greens.

Didi Chicken Pie 3.5/5

The Didi Chicken Pie ($8.50) was pretty huge with a nice flaky and crusty pastry. The filling was also quite flavourful but let down by the slightly dry chicken in the pie.

I wonder how much is the rent for Hoopla Coffee and Kitchen. The floor area is huge, probably about the size of 3 small cafes. With Mediacorp's plan to move to Mediapolis, this will be a popular place to hang out and catch a glimpse of the tv stars and even dine with the stars in the same premises.

Black Canyon Coffee @ Fusionpolis

IMG_1350ed

Black Canyon Coffee is a local Thailand brand that has a history dated back to 1993. It has more than 190 branches all over Thailand. It is one of the coffee house I would visit whenever I am in Thailand. It has an extensive food menu covering western, eastern and local Thai cuisines.

I am glad that someone has franchised Black Canyon Coffee to Singapore. It sort of got be excited when I get to know that it is conveniently located near One North MRT station.

Thai Ice Tea and Lime Juice 4/5

I am here for the Thai food so for beverage I have to order my favourite Thai Ice Tea.

Chicken Green Curry 4/5

The Chicken Green Curry is the perfect pairing for the plain rice. I love the thick creamy green curry over my rice. The chicken was also very tender. Unfortunately the Thai eggplant was a bit tough, cooking it a few more minutes would be perfect.

Prawn Tom Yum Soup 4/5

I thought the Prawn Tom Yum Soup was a bit different. The restaurant used quite a lot of shallots in the soup. Not sure if that is the reason, the soup tasted not as sour. It lacked that sour kick I was looking for in a bowl of Tom Yum Soup.

Colbar @ Wessex Estate

Wessex Estate is a very ulu place to go unless one drives. Now with the opening of the circle line, getting to Wessex Estate is easier now. It is a good place to get away from the busy urban life amidst in colonial buildings and greenery.

Colbar which was an army canteen during the British Colony days. The rustic design and decor have not changed over the years.

Colbar has an extensive menu of Asian and Western fare. It also has a good selection of imported beers. As I was not too hungry, I had the breakfast set from their all day breakfast menu. The food was slightly above average only. However it is a bit pricey for a nostalgia eatery.

Penang Place Restaurant @ Fusionopolis

After a two month's wait, I was so excited to know that Penang Place Restaurant will reopen at its new premise at Fusionopolis. After being introduced to the restaurant when it was located at International Business Park, whenever I have craving for Penang cuisine, Penang Place Restaurant always the first to come to my mind.

Our July's foodies and twitter friends gathering was coming up so I suggested the Penang Place Restaurant since most of them have not been to the restaurant. To be frank, I was also a bit nervous whether the food will be up to their mark.

The Penang Fried Kway Teow is very popular here. Being been to the restaurant, I know the Penang Fried Kway Teow will disappear from the buffet line in an instant. When I walked into the restaurant, I stole a glance at the buffet line and the Penang Fried Kway Teow's trap was empty! Lucky we have a big group and we can take turns to check out the buffet line for the Penang Fried Kway Teow.

I am delighted the Penang Fried Kway Teow was still as good. I also breathed a sigh of relief when the group commented the Penang Fried Kway Teow was good. The Penang Fried Kway Teow stirred fried with bean sprouts, cockles, prawns, fish cakes and eggs also had the wok smell.

Besides the delicious food there is also an element of fun where one can DIY what they want to eat such as Nasi Lemak, Penang Laska, Fruit Rojak.

The other dish I was looking forward is the Cuttlefish Kangkong. Not many eateries are selling this dish anymore. I missed the texture of the Cuttlefish with the sweet dark sauce.

Another dish that we seldom get to eat is the Fried Cempedak Fritter. It is like Goreng Pisang (Fried Banana) but the fruit is much sweeter.

There were many other savoury dishes that I could not resist going for a second helping.

Prawn Noodle 4/5

Fried Chicken and Seaweed roll 4/5

Curry Chicken 4.5/5
Fried Ngo Hiong and Spring Roll 4.2/5

Century Egg 4/5

Lastly is the spread of desserts.  Kids will love this, they can mix and match to make their own Chendol or Ice Kachang.
