AkanoyaRobatayaki13

Nestled within the Akashi Group, Akanoya Robatayaki, a renowned Japanese bincho grill restaurant, has unveiled a fresh chapter in its culinary journey. After 8 years of serving delectable robatayaki dishes, the restaurant underwent an extensive transformation, modernising its space to provide an enriched dining encounter. This makeover added more booths, private rooms, and a bar while keeping the central robatayaki dining counter intact. Simultaneously, as part of this renaissance, Akanoya Robatayaki introduced lunch service for the first time in its history. The Hirugohan Lunch Set, priced at $48++, presents an indulgent collection of 8 delightful dishes.

Additionally, an optional Sashimi course is available for an extra $20. Our sashimi ensemble spotlighted Maguro, Hamachi, and Salmon, each exhibiting the impeccable freshness synonymous with Akanoya Robatayaki.

Meat Skewer with Half-boiled Egg 4.5/5

Moving ahead, we savour the Meat Skewer with Half-boiled Egg. This creation boasts a unique combination of meat with soft bone, providing a captivating textural interplay. As the half-boiled egg complements the skewer, a delightful fusion of flavours emerges, evoking memories of a classic Singaporean breakfast.

You can also order a couple of cocktails from the bar to complement the lunch. If not, it also has a stellar sake list offers 30 to 40 selections of rare sakes carefully sourced from various parts of Japan

Grilled Japanese Vegetables and Mushrooms 4/5

Enhancing the culinary affair, Grilled Japanese Vegetables and Mushrooms come into play. These delectable bites, caressed by the bincho charcoal's essence, acquire a subtle smoky allure while retaining their inviting crunch.

AkanoyaRobatayaki32
Beef Croquette 4.2/5

Among the highlights of the lunch set is the Beef Croquette, a scrumptious creation that marries flavoursome, juicy beef with a crispy exterior.

AkanoyaRobatayaki24
Wagyu 4.2/5

The main course offers a choice between Wagyu and Cod. Opting for the Wagyu, diners are treated to marbling that translates to a heavenly blend of flavour and melt-in-the-mouth texture, an epitome of culinary delight.

The finale arrives with the Donabe, where fragrant rice dances with sakura ebi and salmon roes. Each spoonful bursts with intricate flavours, crafting a memorable conclusion to the meal.

Kyuu By Shunsui @ Keong Saik Road - New Sashimi And Robatayaki Restaurant

Kyuu7

A new kid on the block, Kyuu by Shunsui has opened at Keong Saik Road. From the same group that manages Five Nines and Kappo Shunsui, Kyuu has taken over the space of Five Nines, with Five Nines relocating to Cuppage Plaza. Kyuu is helmed by Chef Issey Araki, formerly from one Michelin starred restaurant Akasaka Tantei in Tokyo, Japan. The restaurants offers a tantalising ten-course Omakase menu priced at $129. A la carte menu is also available.

Kyuu2
3 Kinds of Appetizer 3.8/5

We started with 3 Kinds of Appetizer. On the plate, you can find Soft Simmered Duck topped with homemade miso, Homemade Sesame Tofu covered with starchy sauce and wasabi, and Fresh Fig with Sumiso. A delicate plate of appetizer to kick start the dinner.

Kyuu6
Assorted Sashimi 4.5/5

Next is Assorted Sashimi. The fresh plate of sashimi consists of Tuna Fatty Belly, Red Snapper, Salmon, Sea Urchin, Yellow Tail, Red Shrimp, Scallop and Salmon Roe. You can't get any fresher with this seasonal catch on the plate. By the way, above photo is 2 pax sharing portion.

Kyuu10
Eggplant with Sweet Red Miso 3.5/5

Moving to the charcoal grill items, we started with the Eggplant with Sweet Red Miso. Eggplant if not done correctly will be mushy and unpleasant on the palate. The eggplant here still retained a crunchy bite. The sweet red miso sauce with sesame on the grilled eggplant, felt like having our local chee cheong fun.

Kyuu12
Tuna Belly with Truffle Ponzu Sauce 4.2/5

The truffle ponzu sauce complemented the grilled Tuna Belly excellently. It lends a zesty tanginess to the smokiness of the grilled tuna belly. The accompanying cucumber provides the extra crunch to the dish.

Kyuu15
Big Size Prawn with Wasabi Sauce 4.2/5

Grilled to perfection is the Big Size Prawn with Wasabi Sauce. It is sweet, smokey and crunchy.

Kyuu19
King Crab with Vinegar and Sudachi Lime 4.5/5

One of my favourite items from the omakase menu is the King Crab with Vinegar and Sudachi Lime. You just have to get your hands dirty with this to enjoy the sweetness of the king crab.

Kyuu21
Fruits Tomato with Setouchi Salt 3/5

I have mixed opinion of the Fruits Tomato with Setouchi Salt. I can't deny the tomato was sweet but it is quite difficult for diners to consume it. As the tomato was grilled, it is too hot and difficult to cut through it with the teeth, not to say putting the whole thing into the mouth. I could see my fellow dining friends, struggling to have a way to eat it.

Kyuu25
Kagoshima A4 Wagyu Beef Altchbone with Red Miso Fond De Veau 4.5/5

If you love a piece of good steak, then you should have the Kagoshima A4 Wagyu Beef Altchbone with Red Miso Fond De Veau. Simply grilled to perfection, allowing the natural flavour of the beautiful meat to shine with a layer of char sitting on the surface for a hint of smokiness. It was tender and juicy too.

Kyuu27
Hokkaido Rice Nanatsuboshi Covered with Salmon Roe 4/5

Diners have a choice of small, medium or large for the rice dish - Hokkaido Rice Nanatsuboshi Covered with Salmon Roe. The interesting part of this is you get unlimited top of the salmon roe which has been pre-soaked in a special dashi mixture from the chef. The chefs will chant "yoshio, yoshio'', as it pour scoop after scoop of ikura onto the rice until the guest says stop. It also comes with a bowl of miso soup with fresh nori seaweed.

Kyuu28
Homemade Ice Cream 3.5/5

Last but not least, we wrapped up our omakase with Homemade Matcha Ice Cream with Red Bean for a sweet ending.

Kyuu5

Aside from the Omakase menu, guests can also order from an ala carte menu that offers sashimi and other cold and hot appetisers, as well as charcoal grilled and deep fried dishes. These can be enjoyed alongside an extensive list of craft beers, umeshu, shochu, highballs, wines (red, white and sparkling), champagne and close to 40 different labels of sake.

Note: This is an invited tasting.
