Legendary Bak Kut Teh (發传人肉骨茶) @ Rangoon Road - The Real Deal Of A Good Bak Kut Teh

LegendaryBKT1

There are two Legendary Bak Kut Teh outlets in Singapore. One is at Rangoon Road while the newest outlet is located at South Bridge Road. The restaurant is originally known as Founder Bak Kut Teh run by the daughter of Founder Bak Kut Teh in Balestier. The restaurant in Balestier is run by her dad and brother. Due to a change in business strategy to expand the Founder's brand, the daughter renamed her restaurant to Legendary Bak Kut Teh. Like every F&B business, business is affected by the pandemic. It has to adapt and also jump onto the food delivery bandwagon.

LegendaryBKT17
Bak Kut Teh

Not to be missed is their Bak Kut Teh (發传人肉骨茶) which uses the same original family recipe. Customers can also choose the type of pork ribs for their Bak Kut Teh, using fresh Indonesian pork and Sarawak peppercorn. To be frank, I have just recently eaten at Founder Bak Kut Teh and I personally prefer the version at Legendary which is more robust and peppery.

LegendaryBKT4
Dang Ou Soup

Having the Bak Kut Teh alone can be quite boring. I usually like to order a couple of side dishes to complement the meal. I had the Salted Vegetables, Braised Peanuts, Tau Kee and Dang Ou Soup which are really yummy to go long with the pork rib soup.

LegendaryBKT7
Mixed Pig Organ Soup

LegendaryBKT3
Mee Sua

Besides their Bak Kut Teh, I also enjoyed their Mixed Pig Organ Soup. I even order a bowl of Mee Sua to go along with it. This is my ideal combination.

LegendaryBKT9
Sesame Oil Chicken

Although Legendary is known for their Bak Kut Teh, the menu is quite extensive with many delectable cooked dishes and steamed fish. One of them is the Sesame Oil Chicken which is cooked to tender and blanketed in a layer of aroma from the fragrant sesame oil.

LegendaryBKT12
Braised Pig Trotter

If you are not afraid of the fats under the Braised Pig Trotter's gelatine skin, you will enjoyed the well braised flavour of the succulent meat. This goes very well with a bowl of steamed rice.

LegendaryBKT13
Royal Chives

For a balance diet, the crunchy Royal Chives cooked with bean sprouts will be a delectable textural enjoyment.

LegendaryBKT18
Ngoh Hiang

Last but at least, crispy on the exterior and meaty inside is the Ngoh Hiang. You can also get crunchy bits of water chestnut in it too.

Although we are in Phrase 2 of the circuit breaker and restaurants are allowed to accept dine-in customer, Legendary Bak Kut Teh has kept its island-wide delviery service for the time being. For enquiries and order, you can WhatsApp them at 96450125.

Kota Zheng Zong Bak Kut Teh @ Holland Village - Traditional Malaysian Herbal Bak Kut Teh With 39 Years Of Heritage

KotaZhengZongBKT20

Kota Zheng Zong Bak Kut Teh (哥打正宗肉骨茶), the famed traditional Malaysian-style herbal Bak Kut Teh from Kelantan, Kota Tinggi, Malaysia has opened its first outlet in Holland Village, Singapore. Started as a humble tricycle pushcart stall in Kampung Kelantan in 1980 by Mr Pang Kow, the business has expanded into Johor Bahru and now across the causeway in Singapore.

KotaZhengZongBKT22
Herbal Claypot Bak Kut Teh

Their signature Herbal Claypot Bak Kut Teh ($11.90/ $28.90/ $49.90) comes in three sizes that are suitable for 1 pax, 2-3 pax and 4-5 pax respectively. Using a 39-year-old recipe, the bak kut teh soup is brewed using pork ribs, belly, leg and tail, together with a mix of 18 Chinese herbs and dark soy sauce. The result is a robust, complex broth with savoury and bittersweet notes. I had the spare pork ribs which fell of the bone with ease. Diners can also add on other ingredients such as button mushroom ($1), crispy sheets of fried beancurd skin ($1) and pig's liver ($2.90).

Fried You Tiao 4/5, Preserved Vegetable 3.5/5, Braised Tau Pok 4.2/5

KotaZhengZongBKT7
Chinese Lettuce 3.5/5, Muar Mackerel Otah 4.2/5

To complete the meal, diners can also paired it with other side dishes such as Fried You Tiao ($1.90), Braised Tau Pok ($3.90), Fragrant White Rice ($0.90), Chinese Lettuce ($5.90/ $8.90) and Muar Mackerel Otah ($9.90).

KotaZhengZongBKT17

Diners can also opt for Premium Pork Ribs ($12.90/ $29.90/ $53.90) for the herbal claypot bak kut teh. For a different experience of appreciating bak kut teh, one can spike up the broth with a shot of Hua Tiao Rice Wine ($0.90), Hennessy VSOP ($3.90) or Martell Cordon Bleu ($10.90).

KotaZhengZongBKT5
Spanish Iberico in White Pepper Soup 3/5

Besides the herbal style bak kut teh, the restaurant also offers the Spanish Iberico in White Pepper Soup ($15.90/ $39.90). Unfortunately, the white soup lacked the robustness of the peppery style that I am used to. Furthermore, I find the Spanish Iberico too fatty for my enjoyment.

KotaZhengZongBKT24
Braised Pig's Trotters 4/5

Best savoured with a bowl of steaming white rice is the Braised Pig's Trotters ($12.90/ $31.90). The toothsome meat with its plush, soft fat is slow-cooked in dark soy sauce and other aromatics till tender.

KotaZhengZongBKT8
Triple Mix Organ Soup 4.2/5

I love innards, hence I am glad that the restaurant serves Triple Mix Organ Soup ($13.90/ $32.90). In the piping hot claypot, one can find pig's liver, kidney and intestines in the herbal broth.

Though I am not a fan of Malaysia-style bak kut teh for its strong herbal taste, the version here is more balanced which will suit the local's palate.

Aik Kee Haslet Soup @ Geylang East Centre Food Centre - One Of My Go To Places For Pig's Organ Soup

AikKeeHasletSoup4

I am not sure about you, but I am a big fan of pig's organ soup. Besides the tangy, peppery soup, it comes with a variety of ingredients. One of my favourites pig's organ soup stall is Aik Kee Haslet Soup at Geylang East Centre Food Centre.

AikKeeHasletSoup3
Pig's Organ Soup 4.2/5

AikKeeHasletSoup8

The Pig's Organ Soup here ranges from $4.50 to $7. I have the $5.50 portion which comes with thick slices of pork belly, pig's stomach, pig's intestine, pig's liver, pork balls and salted vegetables. I have come across many stalls that are quite stingy in the portion but not at Aik Kee. You can tell from the picture itself. All this will go to waste, if not for the tangy and peppery soup that is robust and packed with depth.

AikKeeHasletSoup7
Ngor Hiang 3.5/5

Besides the pig's organ soup, one can order the Ngor Hiang ($1.50 each) to complete the meal. The beancurd skin is deep fried to golden brown with enjoyable crispiness on the exterior. Unfortunately, I find it slightly on the salty side.

Aik Kee Haslet Soup may not be as well known compared to the other more popular stalls, but in my opinion, it is on par or as good. It has been one of my go-to stalls whenever I have a craving for pig's organ soup.

Koh Brother Pig's Organ Soup @ Tiong Bahru Food Centre - Teochew Style Pig's Organ Soup Founded In 1955

TiongBahruFoodCentre9

One of my frequent stalls at Tiong Bahru Food Centre is Koh Brother Pig's Organ Soup. The Teochew style pig's organ soup is currently run by the 2nd and 3rd generations of Mr Koh Kee Teo who founded the stall in 1955.

TiongBahruFoodCentre8

What I like about the Pig's Organ Soup ($4/$5) here is the generous serving of different pig offal with salted mustard vegetables. There are also lean pork slices and meatballs. The clear soup may look rather bland but it is actually quite flavourful, flavoured by the salted mustard vegetables. I would recommend having the pig's organ soup with a bowl of steamed rice to make it a meal.

Large Intestine Stuffed with Glutinous Rice & Chestnut 4/5

Besides the pig's organ soup, the stall also sells Large Intestine Stuffed with Glutinous Rice & Chestnut (from $3) which is something not commonly available nowadays. This is best to have it together with some sweet dark sauce.

Koh Brother Pig's Organ Soup (许兄弟猪什汤) @ Tiong Bahru Market & Food Centre

IMG_5068

As many may know, Tiong Bahru Market & Food Centre is like a little food heaven with lots of delicious offering of local fare. Koh Brother Pig's Organ Soup (许兄弟猪什汤) is one of the more popular stalls at the food centre.

IMG_5072
Pig's Organ Soup 4/5

The Pig's Organ Soup ($3/$4) here is Teochew style with a clear soup base and came with a generous offering of pork offal. The bowl of soup also came with a lot of Salted Mustard Vegetables which made the soup a tad salty.

IMG_5065
Pig's Organ Soup 4/5

Nowadays not many stalls offer big intestine in their bowl of Pig's Organ Soup because of the tedious labour in cleaning them. The stall still continue to offer them over all these years. Another item not commonly found but offer at the stall is the Glutinous Rice stuffed in Pig Intestine. Unfortunately I did not try it this time but looking forward to savour this slowly disappearing dish.

Yu Ji (宇记) Pig Organ Soup @ Albert Centre Market & Food Centre

Albert Centre Market & Food Centre has been newly renovated and I took the opportunity to explore the food centre a bit. There seem to be many interesting and nice food around the food centre. After making a few rounds around the food centre, I decided to settle for the pig organ soup. The pig organ soup had a nice balance and the soup is neither too salty or peppery.

Kopi Food Court @ Changi Airport T3

Kopi food court is just one of the Kopitiam group food court that was given a more trendy name. A new stall selling pig organ soup, kwap chap and bak kut teh has opened at the food court. I tried the pig organ soup. The serving was a bit small but the pig organ soup turned out quite nice. I especially like the soup. It was not too salty having the right balance.
