White Rose Cafe @ York Hotel - Rejuvenates Dining Experience With A Refreshed A La Carte Menu

RoseCafeJul224

White Rose Cafe at York Hote, known for its authentic local and Asian classics, revitalised its a la carte menu showcasing a delectable selection of local, Asian, Western, and premium carbon-neutral beef specialities conjured by the culinary team.

RoseCafeJul221
Gado Gado 3.5/5

New highlights for the appetiser include the Gado Gado and Seafood Couscous Salad. The light and appetising Gado Gado ($15) comprising of long beans, boiled potato, cabbage, bean sprouts, fried bean curd and egg is dressed in a fragrant peanut sauce for a nutty finishing.

RoseCafeJul227
Seafood Couscous Salad 4/5

The Seafood Couscous Salad ($20) consisting of prawns, squid and fish in a refreshing mango salsa dressing is excellent for whetting up the appetite.

RoseCafeJul2216
Minestrone 3.5.5

For the soup option, diners can choose either the Minestrone or the new Crab Bisque with Cognac. The sweet and tangy Minestrone ($15) soup comes with delightful bites from the accompanying ingredients such as beans, pasta, potato, carrot, zucchini and cabbage.

RoseCafeJul2214
Crab Bisque with Cognac 4/5

The Crab Bisque with Cognac ($18) is much more robust and richer in flavour, paired with garlic bread and cream.

RoseCafeJul225

RoseCafeJul224
Thai Green Curry 4/5

Besides the local classic, the kitchen has expanded the menu to include Thai cuisine. We tried the Thai Green Curry ($25) with tender chicken simmered in a rich coconut-based curry. It is served together with a plate of fragrant steamed rice topped with a silverfish omelette.

RoseCafeJul228
Chicken Roulade 4/5

We moved from local and Asian cuisines to Western fares, such as the Chicken Roulade and Ribeye Steak ($52). The tender and juicy Chicken Roulade ($25) is paired with mashed potatoes, asparagus, broccolini and baby carrots. It is a classic and simple dish executed beautifully for a delicious meal.

RoseCafeJul229
Ribeye Steak 4/5

Consumers are more into sustainable diet nowadays, so the culinary team has replaced the regular ground beef with carbon-neutral beef from Five Founders, Australia. Beef lovers can look forward to the perfectly grilled Ribeye Steak ($52) served with potato gratin and seasonal vegetables.

RoseCafeJul2211
Paneer Tikka 3/5

RoseCafeJul2213
Green Burger 3/5

For the vegetarians, customers have the option of Paneer Tikka ($16) served with raita and papadum. I am not a fan of it. I thought it was bland, lacking a sauce. Maybe a vegetarian curry will help to elevate the dish. For something for filling, go for the Green Burger ($18), whereby plump and juicy portobello mushroom is sandwiched between charcoal bun with pesto mayo dressing.

RoseCafeJul2218
Chocolate Lava Cake 3.5/5

RoseCafeJul2220
Sago Gula Melaka 3.5/5

RoseCafeJul2219
Creme Brulee 3.5/5

End your meal on a sweet ending with a selection of desserts such as the Chocolate Lava Cake ($12) with vanilla ice cream, Sago Gula Melaka ($9) with coconut milk and Creme Brulee ($12), a rich custard base topped with a layer of hardened caramelised sugar.

Note: This is an invited tasting.

Burger & Lobster @ Raffles Hotel Singapore - Rekindle Your Romance This Valentine's Day With Exclusive Course Menu

BurgerNLobster7

This Valentine's Day, treat you and your loved one with an exclusive three-course sharing menu at Burger & Lobster, their Raffles Hotel Singapore restaurant. Available from 11 to 15 February 2021, their Valentines Menu is available at $138 for two (excluding drinks).

BurgerNLobster3
Pan Seared Scallops 4/5

To start the meal, we had the Pan Seared Scallops, which features plump and juicy pan-seared scallops, served with grilled asparagus, pine nuts and salad. The dish is decorated with baby radish and edible flowers.

BurgerNLobster4
Smoked Beetroot Salad 3.8/5

The Smoked Beetroot Salad is a vegetarian alternative of the Pan Seared Scallops, replacing the scallops with slices of juicy smoked beetroot.

BurgerNLobster8
The Burger & Lobster Combo 4.5/5

For the main, we tried the Burger & Lobster Combo, which consists of the Signature Mayfair Burger and half a 1.5lbs lobster (available either steamed or grilled). Done medium rare, the thick Nebraskan beef patty is exceptionally tender and juicy with rich beefy goodness. The wild Atlantic lobster is also equally good with its fresh lobster meat.

BurgerNLobster5
The Lobster Combo 4.5/5

Our favourite is the Lobster Combo, which comes with an Original Lobster Roll and half a 1.5lbs lobster. The lobster roll comes in a toasted brioche bun that is incredibly soft and buttery and stuffed generously with chunks of chilled lobster meat dressed in creamy Japanese mayonnaise. Slather the side serving of B&L's Lemon Garlic Butter sauce all over the roll for the ultimate indulgence.

BurgerNLobster9
The Wholesome Combo 3.8/5

A vegetarian alternative to the burger & lobster combo is the Wholesome Combo, which comes in a chickpea patty burger and eggplant bacon for the vegan burger, and a side of baked quinoa cake which is made from mushrooms spinach, and peas.

BurgerNLobster12
Chocolate, Banana & Raspberry 4/5

Round off the course meal with an indulgent dessert. The Chocolate, Banana & Raspberry features a rich flowy chocolate lava cake, served with crispy banana fritters, and drizzled with salted caramel and raspberry puree.

Viio Gastropub @ Balestier Road - For Affordable Weekday Lunch Set and Craft Beer On Tap

ViioGastroPub1

Situated in the heart of Balestier, just next to Zhongshan Mall is Viio Gastropub – the latest upscale casual dining restaurant in the Balestier neigbourhood, helmed by Chef Ronald Li who has an impressive history of culinary experiences at high end restaurants and hotels over the years. Featuring a menu of specially curated pasta and donburi, they have an affordable weekday lunch set option from 11.30am to 2.30pm as well. Each main comes with house greens and soup of the day, starting from $9.90++ onwards. They also sport a lineup of fresh craft beer on tap to cater to the casual happy hour gatherings as well.

ViioGastroPub8
Spaghetti Aglio Alio with Prawns 3.8/5

We had the Spaghetti Aglio Alio with Prawns ($9.90) which features al dente pasta tossed in a homemade prawn and olive oil mixture, giving the dish a fragrant aroma and a subtle hint of spice. Paired with plenty of small shrimps atop which has a crunchy sweet texture. Although I wished plump juicy prawns were used instead but for the pricing, it is rather value for money.

ViioGastroPub6
Rigatoni Bolognese with Onsen Egg 4/5

The al dente chewy texture of the pasta for the Rigatoni Bolognese with Onsen Egg ($12.90) was pure enjoyment on its own. The dish is cooked in a flavourful bolognese sauce to elevate its flavours. Not forgetting a flowy onsen egg to gel everything together as well.

ViioGastroPub5
BBQ Pork Ribs Donburi 4.2/5

A personal favourite is the BBQ Pork Ribs Donburi ($14.90) which features flavourful slabs of pork cooked till tender, and seasoned with a marinate to give it a tinge of sweetness. Also comes with complements of seasonal vegetable and pickle to add another flavour and texture dimension to the dish, as well as to cut through the richness of the BBQ pork ribs. Break into the oozy onsen egg to meld all the elements in the bowl together.

ViioGastroPub7
Duo Wagyu Beef Slider and Chips 4.2/5

The Duo Wagyu Beef Slider and Chips ($16.90) is served with a side of fries. Although mini in size, the beef patty sandwiched in between the buttery toasted buns was thick and succulent. Each slider also comes with tomato, melted cheese, oyster mushroom and pickle, which adds some sweetness and crunch to the sliders.

ViioGastroPub4
D.Chocolate Fondant 3.8/5

End the meal on a sweet note with their D.Chocolate Fondant ($14). Featuring a beautifully plated desserts of two mini chocolate lava cakes with assorted berries and mango sorbet, which adds a sour flavour to complement the richness of the chocolate. My only gripe is that the chocolate cakes did not flow, and would be better if there is more chocolatey goodness in it.

ViioGastroPub2

Overall, we were impressed with flavour-focused menu at Viio Gastropub, with the lunch set deals being an extremely worthy deal especially for people working around the area on the weekdays.

Antoinette @ Penhas Road - The Ever-Inspired Chef Pang Has Unveiled A New Menu

Antoinette36

The ever-inspired Chef Pang of Antoinette has unveiled a new menu, introducing a number  of new savory and brunch dishes. Together with the new menu launched, it has also introduced a number of new cocktails to complement the its extensive tea pairing.

Antoinette19

Some of these new cocktails are Pretty Pink ($16), Prescription ($14), Huat Ah! ($18) and Blue Romance ($12). The eye catching drink probably is the Prescription which comes with a pill sachet which contains grass jelly cubes. This is a playful drink whereby the guests get to play doctor and mix the houjicha latte, okinawan black sugar syrup, yuzu ice cubes and fairy grass together to concoct their own medicine drink.

Antoinette18
Baked Rigatoni 4/5 and Black Bait 4.5/5

For some light starters, there are the Baked Rigatoni ($8) and Black Bait ($12). The baked rigatoni pasta is satueed in tomato cream sauce, topped with a golden brown crust of gruyere cheese and emmental cheese. This is an all-day comforting dish. As for the black bait, it is a very addictive snack. The morsels of fish is dusted with homemade spice seasonings which consists of onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, salt and pepper with a sprinkle of raspberry powder.

Antoinette14
Watermelon & Smoked Duck Salad 4/5

The interplay of color for the Watermelon &  Smoked Duck Salad ($24) definitely stands out. It looks like a garden in autumn except that it is on the plate. Two components on the plate stood out for me. The beautiful tender smoked duck and pickled watermelon cubes which has a refreshing acidity to the dish.

Antoinette22
Wagyu Beef Tagliatelle 4.2/5

The pasta for the Wagyu Beef Tagliatelle ($26) is made in house using whole wheat. The delightful bite of the pasta is complemented by the delicious ragout which has been cooked with red wine, herbs and wagyu beef. It also comes with an onsen egg and grated parmesan cheese.

Antoinette24
Double Prawn Linguine 4.2/5

Inspired by the local prawn noodles is the Double Prawn Linguine ($26). It has a rich umani-spicy note from the prawn bisque and spicy shrimp paste, that is well coated around the ribbons of linguine. The dish is then finished with zucchini strips, ebiko, sakura ebi, nori and shiso cress for flavours as well as textures.

Antoinette28
Kurobuta Ham & Cheese Toast 4.2/5

Toast lover will rejoice to know that Antoinette has added 4 savoury and 2 sweet Toast to their new menu. For savoury there are Smoked Salmon, Kurobuta Ham & Cheese, Wild Mushrooms and Avocado Mash. If you have a sweet tooth, there are Banana and Strawberry.

Antoinette32
Banana Toast 4.2/5

We tried both the Kurobuta Ham & Cheese Toast ($14) and Banana Toast ($12). The bread of the Kurobuta Ham & Cheese Toast  is brushed with butter before being toasted to a nice crispy crust on the exterior while retaining a soft texture inside. It is then spread with a layer of sweet potato mash,  followed with topping of kurobuta ham and emmental cheese. As for the sweet Banana Toast, it comes with salted butter, nutella, fresh banana, caramel popcorn, coco pops and drizzled with chocolate sauce.

Antoinette33
Fondant au Chocolat 4.2/5

The Fondant au Chocolat ($14) is a warm chocolate cake, served with cold brewed coffee ice cream with orange confit. The combination of warm and cold, with the richness of the chocolate cake will satisfy anyone with a sweet tooth.

Antoinette35
Watermelon Kakigori 4.2/5

Making a spectacular entrance is the Watermelon Kakigori ($20) which is appealing to both taste and presentation. The refreshing watermelon comes in cubes as well as shaved ice. Hidden underneath the shaved ice is earl grey chiffon cake layered with yuzu cream, fresh strawberries, rose petal foam and almond crumble. Perfect for sharing and ending your meal on a sweet finale.

Hans Im Gluck @ Orchard Road - A Fairy Tale-like German Burger Chain Opens In Singapore

IMG_20180126_222738_873-01

Situated in the heart of Orchard Road is Hans Im Gluck, an established German Burger Grill and Bar from Munich which has launched 49 outlets across Europe and hereby marking Singapore as the franchise’s 50th outlet globally. Originating from a wonderful story of Hans Im Gluck which is meant to teach readers the true origin of happiness, diners will be instantly transported to an enchanting dining experience akin to dining in a whimsical fairy tale forest with its carefully curated interiors - the lush greenery and floor to ceiling birch tree trunks sprouting in between tables to create a green haven away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

IMG_20180126_222907_359

Burgers are their forte. The casual gourmet burger restaurant specialises in an extensive selection of quality European gastro burgers - with over 30 beef and chicken burgers served alongside salads, as well as vegetarian and vegan burgers to cater to those with dietary restrictions. Also, the restaurant brings in its own range of housemade sauces, as well as multi-grain and sourdough buns, which come frozen from Germany and are made exclusively for the chain, in order to ensure consistency and quality. I liked how all burgers come with an option for customers to choose their choice of bread from Sourdough, Multigrain or go Naked, which basically translates into a bun-less burger, perfect for those on a carb-free diet.

1 PFUND SUSSKARTOFFEL-FRITTEN
1 PFUND SUSSKARTOFFEL-FRITTEN 4.5/5

The 1 PFUND SUSSKARTOFFEL-FRITTEN ($9) comes in a generously portioned sweet potato fries which boasts a crispy exterior, with a sweet potato fragrance within its soft airy insides. Though good on its own, pair them with the different sauces available and you will finish all one pound of these addictive sweet potato goodness in no time.

HANS IM GLUCK
HANS IM GLUCK 4.2/5

The HANS IM GLUCK ($17) features a beef burger which comes with parmesan cheese, parma ham, rocket leaves and balsamic glaze. The subtle sweetness from the balsamic glaze complemented the savouriness of the other ingredients quite well, while the beef patty leans towards the tougher side as they only do their beef well-done. Furthermore, the restaurant opts for fresh Australian beef, which averages at 20 per cent fat-to-meat ratio. This explains why the patty lack the juiciness one usually expect for their burgers.

KLASSIK
KLASSIK 4/5

Another beef burger from their menu, the KLASSIK ($14) claimed as the 'mother of all burgers', also came with a nicely seasoned beef patty, as well as the standard set of toppings such as fresh lettuce, red onions, sun-ripened tomatoes and their signature HANS IM GLÜCK sauce. Boasting a good balance of flavour and texture, their rendition of European beef burgers are generally less greasy and more healthy than the American-style burgers.

VOGELWILD
VOGELWILD 3.8/5

The VOGELWILD ($14) features a grilled chicken breast burger with sour cream chive sauce and crispy fried onions. A healthier option as grilled chicken breast is used, the meat was a tad dry on its own. However, the dressings provided a creamy tanginess which lends a refreshing flavour to the burger in between bites.

ABENDROT
ABENDROT 4/5

One of the vegetarian burger options from the menu, the ABENDROT ($15) comes with parmesan cheese, grilled vegetable tartare & rocket leaves. Crunchy and flavourful, this meatless option is still satisfying as the rich flavour of the grilled vegetable tartare works wonderfully on the palate.

JUGLANS
JUGLANS 4/5

Their Vegan options are no less impressive with the JUGLANS ($15) which comes with cranberries, sprouts and walnuts. The vegan patty has a nice crispness on the exterior while the interior retains a succulent texture. Its accompaniments provide a good balance of flavour to the vegan burger.

HENNE
HENNE 4/5

The HENNE ($15) is a grilled chicken breast burger which comes with avocado cream, sprouts, orange and mustard sauce. However, with the option to go naked (without burger buns), the dish resembles a salad. It may look like a mess of leafy greens, yet it fares notchers higher than the regular salad bowls with its luscious avocado cream and mustard sauce adding a zesty kick to the entire dish. Fresh and yet retaining a nice crunchy texture, it is no less satisfying than the regular burgers and perfect for those on a carb-free diet.

OMAS GEHEIMNIS
OMAS GEHEIMNIS 4.5/5

End the meal on a sweet note with their selection of desserts, such as the OMAS GEHEIMNIS ($12) which features warm molten chocolate cake served with vanilla ice cream & whipped cream. The soft moist molten cake oozes intensely rich chocolate lava upon breaking it open. The classic combination of the warm chocolate and cold ice cream never goes wrong, and is well executed in this case.

WOHLERGEHEN
WOHLERGEHEN 4/5

The WOHLERGEHEN ($10) comes in a pile of mini Crepes drizzled with warm chocolate and served with a scoop of rich vanilla ice cream. The dish also came with some walnuts to add a crunchy texture to the soft mini crepes and creamy ice cream.

BESTER
BESTER 4.2/5

The BESTER ($12) features warm glazed apple tart served with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream. The apple tart leans towards the sour side with a subtle sweetness while the creamy vanilla ice cream on the side provides a good complement to the apple tart, with the addition of whipped cream for a lighter finish.

IMG_20180126_175952_200

Hans Im Gluck presents a whole new slew of wholesome burgers which is of both quality and nutritious value, defying the common perception of unhealthy burgers that we get mostly from fast-food restaurants. Owner Mrs Hirschberger says: "European burgers are healthy and nutritious. Our burgers are different from fast food. We want to offer gourmet burgers in a restaurant setting as proper sit-down meals." As a one-stop burger place to cater to different dietary preferences, it elevates its variety of handcrafted burgers into an exciting and healthy meal – with virtually unlimited options and something special for everyone.
