The Carving Board @ Yuhua Village (Jurong East)

The wooden board and the mouth watering western food has been appearing on my instagram timeline lately so I decided to make my way down to The Carving Board at Jurong East to check out this modernize hawker stall inside a coffeeshop in Jurong East.

Battered Calamari Rings with Curry Mayo Sauce 2.5/5

We started with some light bites in the Battered Calamari Rings with Curry Mayo Sauce ($4.50). Unfortunately, this taste like frozen calamari with non of the springy texture innard, Instead it was some sort of powdery. I would suggest giving it a miss.

Mixed Grill 4/5

From the Premium House Grill section of the menu, I ordered the Mixed Grill ($17) to get a taste of everything. Served on a wooden board, there was beef steak, bratwurst, rosemary chicken chop with toasted bread and salad. All premium house grill comes with a choice of side and sauce. The beef steak was ok but not the best cut. The favourite on the plate has to be the rosemary chicken chop that is flavourful and grilled to a tender juicy bite.

150 Days Australian Angus Flank Steak 4/5

The other selection on the premium house grill menu I tried is the 150 days Australian Angus Flank Steak ($16). I had my flank cooked medium so that it would not end up too tough. The beautiful beef comes with a chewy bite but it was easy for the teeth and enjoyable.

Overall I find that the new concept has brought hawker food somewhat into a new and modernize level while keeping truth to serving good quality food. Price is quite reasonable with the quality The Carving Board is offering. Aston also started from a hawker stall and maybe The Carving Board can be the next Aston if they continue to work hard and maintain its quality and standard.

  1. The queue is extremely long because it takes such a long time to take 1 order. The cashier takes 1 order, walks away to serve the dishes to other tables, serves drinks, before returning to take the 2nd order. I am puzzled there are other servers around, why cant she just focus on taking the orders? One chance is enough. I will not return for the 2nd time.

    1. why people queue just because there's a queue. really unable to understand their notion behind it. the food is okay not fantastic until you must die die queue 15 mins for no reason. once is enough for me too. and the cashier cum owner's attitude is appalling. arrogance has gotten into their head. not another stew kuche's arrogance attitude please

  2. Actually I know them through their friends - owners' friends. It's part of their marketing strategy. They kind of intentionally make people queue to create a hype. The queue will make people curious and talk about it. And typically Singaporeans mentality is that when there's a queue, something is surely good and typically Singaporeans love to queue. Plus their food is not bad therefore some people still think it's worth queuing 30 mins to 1 hour just to place their order.

For me, I rather sit down and wait for my food. Aston is still for me.
