Ri Ye Xiang Rojak (日夜香) @ Clementi Ave 3

IMG_1876ed

I got to know about this Ri Ye Xiang Rojak (日夜香) stall because of the Singapore Favourite Food 2013 - Food Trail. I frequent Clementi but has never noticed this stall at the kopitiam. This is probably the oldest surviving rojak stall in Singapore. With 48 years of history since 1965, Mr Edward Koh (stall owner) has been preparing rojak since the age of 20. Rojak which means mixed in Malay is a dish born from our cultural diversity of Singapore incorporating both Chinese and Malay elements in the ingredients.

Ri Ye Xiang's Rojak is the savoury type topped with freshly ground peanut which Mr Edward Koh took pride in. Also known as the Chinese salad, it comes with a mix of youtiao, bang kuang, pineapple, tau pok and cucumbe tossed in a special prawn paste.

Ri Ye Xiang's Rojak has with a taste of tradition which is quite delectable. The rojak may not be well received by the younger generations who prefer a stronger and compliex flavour.

  2. I think I might have tried this or it could be another one that is at the Kopitiam near the KFC. If it is the same, then it is pretty good indeed. If it is not the same stall, the other one I mentioned is pretty good too :)
