Fosters Steakhouse @ Holland Village

IMG_2122ed

Located at the corner of the stretch of shop houses facing the main road at Holland Village is this ode charm classic English Steakhouse, Fosters Steakhouse since 1960. Fosters Steakhouse was first established at 25 Amber Mansion of old Orchard. Moving another 2 times to Specialists Shopping Centre and Palais Renaissance before settling down at the current venue.

Upon settling down, warm breads were served. After browsing through the menu, my partner and I decided to go for the lunch set menu which comes with a choice of soup, mains, a dessert of the day and coffee or tea at $17.90++

Mushroom Soup 3.5/5 and Onion Soup 4/5

Both the Mushroom Soup and Onion Soup were comforting and homely. Compared the two, I would preferred the Onion Soup which is more flavourful with the sweetness of the caramelised onion.

Fillet Steak 4/5

There were 5 choices for main. I had the Fillet Steak which was grilled tenderloin served with chestnut sauce. The chestnut sauce sounds interesting but I was not really noticeable. The fillet inself was tender and juicy. It was beautifully cooked.

Combo Grill 3.8/5

Similar plating of mash potatoes, french beans and carrot was used for the Combo Grill. The platter of beef steak, chicken and salmon fillet served with mushroom sauce was value for money. While the beef and chicken were tender and succulent, the salmon was a bit over cooked and dry.

Coffee

The lunch set menu comes with a choice of Coffee or Tea. We are both coffee drinker so inevitable our choice is not quite difficult.

Apple Strudel with Vanilla Ice Cream 3/5

The dessert of the day was Apple Strudel with Vanilla Ice Cream. A simple sweet ending for lunch.

While dining at the restaurant, I noticed there were many awards and write ups being framed and hanged on the walls. It seems like Fosters Steakhouse is quite renowned for serving quality and delish steak and great rendition of the English classics. While the lunch set is value for money, I look forward to try their ala carte menu in my next wish.

  3. Takes its customers for granted.

I made an online reservation at Fosters Steakhouse (Holland Village) for a special occasion on 26 Dec 2021. Showed up on time and was directed to an outdoor sitting area. It is noon and the temperature was 34 or 35 degrees C, I requested an air conditioned table and was flat out told that there were none available and it was impossible to change a table. I asked why the online reservation did not make it clear that I was reserving an outdoor table, and the staff was very defensive and robustly foisted the blame back on me for making the reservation through Google, and that Google is not able to differentiate such seating arrangements. At this point, I walked out because it was impossible to eat in such heat, and I felt offended and my dignity taken for granted. Somehow it was entirely my fault, I should have known better, I brought this on myself, and there is no recourse. Gentle reader, this is a restaurant that takes its customers for granted, that has zero customer service, the staff do not have a clue how to manage customer requests, and is clearly a victim of their own success. This abysmal level of customer service is unforgivable, especially in the middle of a pandemic, where many businesses, large and small, are struggling to make ends meet. Shame on the crew of this restaurant, this establishment does not deserve to remain in business.
